Default Japanorama

I was woundering what you think about the BBC3 Program Japanorama (those who know it), hostet by Jonathan Ross (1:57.0 in the Liana around the TG track).

Each episode of Japanorama has a theme, around which Jonathan Ross presents cultural phenomena, films, music, and art that exemplify facets of Japan. The series is colorful in both its creative use of subject matter, and its use of bright colors that helps accent the action on screen rather than distract from it. Subjects were separated by eye catches that often featured the artwork of Junko Mizuno. Ross hosts each episode in suits so bright and stylized they could have been stolen from an anime character.

Fans have credited the series for the care that both Ross and the BBC have placed in its production. Time was given to delve into each subject, and Ross was able to interview various figureheads of culture and industry, including Hayao Miyazaki, Takashi Miike, and Takeshi Kitano.
I found it rather informative(what I´ve seen so far, at least), but mainly funny and surprising. Jonathan Ross is a great Host, I like his way of talking and the show is very well produced. If you have not jet seen it, but are a bit interested in Japan, I suggest you try it out. It´s really worth watching.

I downloaded series 2 (2006) and series 3 (this year) and i have to say, its really good. They really paid attn to a lot of detail, enough to satisfy the most hardcore of japanese fanboys.

Im watching the series 2 ep focusing on comedy in Japan and it has Jonathan Ross in a long interview with comedian Hard Gay, thats hilarious, and Ross is even wearing an identical gay leather bikers outfit similar to the comedians.

I saw all three seasons. It's OK.
I love reading and watching shows about Japan,
this one is informative, but I hate the presenter,
and often the show goes on about nothing ( usually some attempt at humor ),
and some really interesting stuff ( Miyazaki interview ) was cut too short.

To be honest, i thought Jonathan Ross was annoying as hell before i started watching Japanorama, but in this years, i actually found his brand of humor kind of funny.

wikipedia knows all

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Japanor...s_and_episodes

with the ep descriptions you should be able to figure out which season you downloaded from.

The series isnt so much about language lessons as it gives some brief easy to digest looks into various aspects of current japanese pop culture, thats actually reasonably accurate and up to date.

And here I was, thinking the show was exaggerating a lot about ... well, all I thought ... I was sure It couldn´t be that crazy ... but you say it is?

nope, almost all the stuff they talk about is pretty accurate, but remember the majority of japan is full of ordinary/boring ppl/lifestyles, but they mostly focus on stuff in Tokyo, and comparing Tokyo to the rest of Japan is like comparing New York to all of america, its not representative.

It's like assuming that Amesterdam culture represents the rest of the Netherlands (as far as i know, the rest of the country is quite conservative and nothing like Amsterdam). Same thing with Tokyo and the weird stuff they talk about in Japanorama.

Umm, I'd almost want to google this comedian to see if he is funny, but I'm kind of scared at what might result...

he's harmless, his humor isnt really dirty or sexual at all, he's just a really tall ex wrestler who runs around in S&M biker leather performing good deeds in public, but scaring the crap out of conservative japanese with his wacky shenanigans.

I was more concerned with the off-topic results that would emerge from typing in "hard gay" into google.
