Nintendo Wii + GTO Pro racing first impressions thread

So yes, I'll admit I bought a Nintendo Wii and GT Pro racing. I love that golden era of JDM vehicles, so though I knew GT Pro was a cell-shaded, rushed launch title, I fell prey to the temptation anyway.

First impression is that the plastic steering sold with the game, in which the Wii controller rests during game play, is actually pretty neat. It reduces the margin for error by making you move your hands along a bigger radius to turn than if you just use the Wiimote alone. Still, that said, there are some flaws.

The game itself is quite limited in what you can do with the cars. The choice of cars is a bit bizarre too, with some manufacturers offering the latest and greatest (i.e., Honda Fit, Subarua Impreza WRX) and some manufacturers seeming to cut-off at around 1987. It was disappointing to see that the only Nissan Skyline was the old one. I wish they'd have used the game to showcase the up-and-coming new ones.

The graphics are nothing to write home about either, very PS1-ish. Not that you buy a Wii for graphics, but I was expecting something at least on par with the GameCube!! This was definitely a barebones title that was rushed so that Ubisoft could have some representation at launch time. This is OK for a 1st gen game, but I'm definitely expecting more next time.

Tis a shame that it looks like a rushed game. Give the system some time and I think we will have some very quality racing games.

i dont kno about that, nintendo has never been the system to release original racing games, well on the sim side of racing anyways..which is prob the main reason im not gonna buy a wii...so im gonna get a 360 w/ forza 2=D

yeah i can't imagine nintendo releasing a good racing game, they've never released one before (mario kart pfffttt). i will stick with my 360...

Ubisoft. Well there's your problem.

How was the gameplay? Were the cars easy to control and did they act like they would in real life?

EA just converted one of its studios to specialize in Wii games. I think we'll see some good stuff come from there. Hopefully the 3rd parties will give better support to the Wii than they did the Gamecube. That's really what held it back.

It forza is ever release. My good friends x-neighbour (now alpha testing halo 3...bastered) works for MS, he worked on the spectating for PGR and the gift tradign system for Viva Pinata. His team also finished the spectating mode for Forza 2, and my buddy asked why it keeps getting delayed. The MS employees answer "they have a hard time hitting dates..." in other words the Forza guys are pretty lazy from what I hear. So it might be out when GT5 comes out...
