| I was playing my friend on live last night and he decided to go to the Ring in MkII Golfs. Now, I was never a big fan of this track having driven it in silly-fast cars before but driving it in the slow VW made it seem... tame. So I think I'll spend my spare time learning my way around the Nurburgring. How many laps do you think it will take me to have an idea of what corner is coming up next?

| Squirrel Mincer | It's hard to say really, I've been driving the 'ring on games since GT4. After doing a few endurance races in my M5 and 1960's Nissan Skyline, you start to know the track pretty well. I can pretty much visualise the whole track in my head, but the second half of the track is the hardest to remember, because it all looks the same. I think once you've done about 8-10 laps in the same car, you'll have a good idea of the braking and turn in points for each corner, and you'll know when you're coming up to the major corners. As I said though it's hard for me to tell. ![]() |

| Squirrel Mincer | I was only guessing, 50 sounds about right to know it properly. ![]() |

| I played Project Gotham Racing 2 on the original Xbox for 6 months straight about 2 years ago, mostly Nurburgring laps. I still know the track quite well. When watching real in-car footage I know which turn is always coming up. Just keep playing and watch in-car footage and see if you can predict which turn is coming up. | |

| Took me around 500 laps to learn it properly, now I can visualize the track in my head. Been racing on it since GT4 times, and now playing it on M3 Challenge on PC. Now, to start learning those corner names... | |

Car: 2008 Audi A4 2.0T Rep Power: 19 ![]() | A few years back there was an online racing league that raced gt and touring cars for 24hours on the ring. It was a mod for the old F1 Challenge pc sim. They would basically connect all the computers and then have people from different time zones to drive the different stints. I raced one year and i had a 3-4 hr stint (what a waste of time looking back now )But anyways, i didn't get to practice much so i went into my stint with only basic knowledge of the track. I made a bunch of mistakes the first hour...but by the second i had the track memorized and it was quite easy to do consistent laps. The trick is just to run a lot of laps in the same car without stopping and not trying to push that hard. I found that pushing too hard at a track like the ring is not worth it in the long run due to the lack of runoff area...so its best to push it at a speed you can handle. |

| Previously Known As Jamesd | I would have done about 100 or so, I know it reasonably well. The last third is always the hardest to know..

If you have golded them, you can be sure you know how to manage those passages. Last edited by the Interceptor; July 15th, 2008 at 05:45 PM. |

| Ok, this isnt going well. Yesterday I picked an NSX and quit within a few hundred yards - the NSX is so low that I couldnt see what was coming up. So I grabbed my EF hatch (stock motor, tuned everything else) and went out there. The damn game froze after 7 minutes. So today I downloaded a patch in order to be able to play xbox games on the 360 (I dont have FM2... yet). Dropped a B18 into the civic and started again. First lap was 12 minutes and change. Second lap was 10:52, with 37 seconds worth of penalty time. Half way through my third lap I ran out of gas. I do recognize certain parts of it though as Im driving... so thats good I guess.

Car: '91 Mazda MX5 NA6CE Rep Power: 2 ![]() | In all honesty, you wont learn it at all from Forza. You might recognise some corners, but its not accurate enough to learn from. PGR4 is by far the most accurate Ive found, though its still a touch narrow.

Car: Dad's MG ZT160 Rep Power: 8 ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() | Forza's Nurburgring is far too long and unchallenging. If you want to get a good representation of the real thing, I would suggest Gran Turismo or Project Gotham Racing.
