Default OMG! 'Friends': The Film ?

Quote:

following in the high-heeled footsteps of "Sex and the City: The Movie" comes another film that's sure to make boyfriends around the world run for cover. Prepare thyself for "Friends: The Movie." Mwa ha ha!

That's right, kids. Rumor has it that there is renewed interest in bringing the six fabulously perky and quirky New Yorkers to the big screen. You can either thank or blame "Sex and the City" for this news. The success of that franchise's recent flick reportedly inspired the cast to bring their beloved sitcom back from the dead.

According to Current, Jennifer Aniston "is believed to have dragged her heels" on the project, but has since changed her mind. Filming should start within the next 18 months. Or will it? Another blog reports that Warner Bros. denied the "Friends" movie rumor, "and there's no confirmation from anyone around town that anything is even being considered."

So, is there hope for all the haters who thought they'd seen the last of Ross, Rachel, and that stupid monkey? Maybe, but remember: When it comes to rumors, they're often denied, but usually true. Sorry.

I was absolutely gutted when they ended the show. A movie comeback would be awesome images/smilies/biggrin.gif

I really hope this movie flops and costs the studio millions. I hate the lack of creativity this shows. Friends ended 4 years ago and so did their story line. Are they just going to pretend the ending didn't happen and everybody lives in their perfect happy apartment again? Or are they going to pretend lifetime friends who hung out every day of their lives somehow lost contact with everybody and will have a "reunion".

Who knows, maybe they will shock the world and show everybody that new york isn't 100% happy white people?

I loved Friends too, but I hope they never make a movie. And it seems like the above mentioned rumor, is just that, a rumor...

I have to completely disagree with you. I can't stand either of them. I think they're both terrible (even for sitcoms where being "average" is really, really horrible in the grand scheme of things).

I am curious to know what you consider good sitcoms... IMO Seinfeld is the most genius thing to ever hit the screen.

Really, the only sitcom I ever enjoyed on a regular basis was Arrested Development. Nothing else comes to mind right now. Could be because it's 2am or it could be because that's really about it.

Yeah, Arrested Development was great.

How about Curb your enthusiasm, MASH, Cheers and Fraiser, all those shows were amazing!

Frasier had its moments. I never watched Curb Your Enthusiasm (might have to find a couple episodes online) and I never really got into MASH.

I'm not much of a TV fiction fan. In the rare instance my TV is actually turned on, it's typically on Discover, History, Science, ESPN, Food Network, Travel for No Reservations or BBC America for Kitchen Nightmares.

I've become completely disenchanted with TV fiction. Even the old staples that I used to actually enjoy (Simpsons, Family Guy, Futurama, etc) have lost their charm to me. Since I absolutely CAN'T STAND "teen dramas" or "reality shows" (yeah... "reality"... suuuure), I'm not left with much.

The newest trend seems to be the Cougar Drama/Sitcom. For those of you unfamiliar with the term "cougar": http://www.urbandictionary.com/define.php?term=cougar

You should definitely look up Curb, it is pure genius, but since you didn't like Seinfeld it might not be up your alley...

I hate reality shows too and hardly watch tv, but here are some excellent shows on now; "24", "Dexter", "The Wire", "The Shield", "Californication", "Scrubs", "Entourage" and I also like "In treatment" on HBO.

I can't stand TV drama. Too predictable. Too many crime scene investigator-type shows (I guess they finally moved on from the hospital dramas that were flooding the airwaves a few years ago).

My problem with Seinfeld is that it's just the same thing over and over and over again. One of them makes a social faux pas. The other cast members spend the 21 minutes or so of run time for that episode discussing it.

Friends is a lot of the same thing, only they also fornicate with eachother and there's the huge underlying sexual tension between the characters. Eh. And instead of a spazzy guy for comic relief you get a spazzy chick.

Scrubs is a pretty repetitive too (although MUCH better than Friends or Seinfeld IMO). I can watch an episode every once in a while, but it's far from something I can watch with any sort of regularity.

I liked Friends, and watched the whole series, but it should end there. What could they possibly milk from the series as every plotline has ended?

All this discussion of good sitcoms and no-one mentions Titus?! I love the politically incorrect humor of it all and their production style. They make it feel like a stage comedy. Too bad it was cancelled. And it takes real genious to make things like a miscarriage and suicide funny.

I'm a big Titus fan. His sitcom was okay (better than most, nothing stellar), but his stand-up is great.
