Default rFactor Vid - SauberF1.06 round the Nordscheife. Happening for real on 28th April!

Not sure how many people have heard about BMW Sauber and Nick Heidfelds plans to drive the F1 car around the full Nordschleife, but I thought I'd make a little rFactor video the other day when I discovered the export to video function images/smilies/tongue.gif It's my first attempt at any video production, but rather pleased with it! images/smilies/biggrin.gif

Any comments appreciated images/smilies/tongue.gif (apart from those on the schoolboy spin 3/4 of the way through the lap images/smilies/sad.gif)

No, I hadn't heard. I can't f'ing wait! images/smilies/drool.gif

As for the video, cool! However, that track doesn't quite look right. I've driven it many times in GT4 (including in a Formula car) and it just doesn't quite look right. Too narrow or something...

... I ask Herb Helbig, vehicle synthesis manager for SRT and a member of the original Team Viper development group since day one, if they'd ever thought of adding traction control. "It comes with two," he says, pointing at my feet. "Learn to use them." Got it.

Apparently it's not being timed officially, but if Heidfeld tries at all he should easily beat the 6min 11sec set by Bellof. There's no reason why it shouldn't dip below 6mins which would be pretty incredible. I'm assuming they'll be a load of onboard vids and stuff, so can't wait!

The perspective is different, so the track looks a bit different as well. Also I notice the drivers arms/hands don't move but the steering wheel does.

niice, too bad LFS hasn't got any real tracks. images/smilies/sad.gif
Mike: How is Rf compared to LFS? It seems from the vid, the car is really sticking to the ground, no oversteer, few times understeer. Or where you playing safe? images/smilies/smile.gif
btw, love the intro sound images/smilies/smile.gif

The version of the track on rFactor is actually the best I've found. Very similar to the GT4 track but the physics engine is a million times better than GT4 images/smilies/tongue.gif I've done all of 5 laps round it for real as a passenger and no matter what game you play, you never get a true sense of how narrow and hemmed in it actually is. The bit before Adenauer (sp?) Forst feels like a tunnel.

Handling is different to LFS, but good. The Sauber tbh feels a bit more realistic in all honesty. Although it may not look like it, I wasn't actually going flat out at all in that. Maybe 8/10ths of the ultimate pace, but I tend to throw it into a hedge half way through the lap if I go 10/10ths round the ring. The thing is very mobile and it's easy to grab a wheel under braking. IMO the biggest thing that I like over LFS is the sound. It's even better in game than on the vid.

You get a better sense of what the handling's like from the cockpit cam. Not my video this, but a good one images/smilies/smile.gif

As for the opening sound on my vid. If people want me to post it up I can. Sounds awesome cranked up to 11 and in full quality images/smilies/biggrin.gif

It should be displayed at 16:9 aspect ratio. That's why everything looks "squeezed" sorta.

maybe because he has raced some sort of openwheeler that uses downforce? How else would he be able to judge the feel himself?

You guys know how Tristancliffe feels about rfactor and lfs :p and beckyrose

IRL on sepang, the F1 cars were all struggling with oversteer and the rear tires wearing out... while it is the opposite situation in rfactor on sepang. I dont play rfactor much at all, but i found it hard to go faster than 1:35... I was amused when i was forced to lower boost and rpms due to my car overheating. images/smilies/biggrin.gif i was barely hitting 175mph while irl the cars hit a considerably faster top speed.
