Default Rock Band - Error

Ok, I finally bought Rock Band for the PS3 and an aftermarket guitar (I wanted this one because it's full size instead of the miniature ones that are branded). Anyway, Harmonix says that Rock Band works with any of the guitar controllers, even the ones made for Guitar Hero. The PS3 recognizes the controller and I can use it to navigate around the menus.

The problem is when I try to actually play the game, I get a message that there's no mic connected and I must connect one to play as a vocalist. My only option is to return to the menu. I don't want to play as a vocalist, I suck at singing.

Anyone else encounter this? How did you fix it?

Easy fix. First you need to lay out all of your guns and ammo like so:

Then it should work.

Not well with a broken arm and limited finger dexterity and strength. I did finally get the instruments out here to California with me over the long weekend.

Rock Band is just for fun, I certainly won't be posting videos of myself on YouTube while under the mistaken impression that it matters, I just want something I can master rather quickly and have fun with.

Yeah, I could - if I had one, which I don't.

It's a long shot, but are you sure you selected the guitar playing option and not the sing-option in the game? (just guessing, i don't even have the game). Weird thing is that it sees the controller in the menus.

Before you start a performance, are you selecting to use guitar only? It's been awhile since I played, so I can't remember the exact layout.

Where do you do that? I didn't see that as an option anywhere.

I love to see "real" musicians threatened by videogame plastic controllers.

I bought Rock Band for my 360. Its fun. Its called casual gaming - I can be a rock star for a half hour and then go about my day, without having to learn all the intracacies of actually mastering an instrument.

I realize that this is what gaming is all about -- same with skateboarding games, hockey games, basketball games, shooting games, etc.

I don't know why, when it comes to music, it bothers me. Perhaps because the barrier to entry is extremely low. You can get a real cheap electric guitar and amp for less than the price of your Xbox if you want to make some real music.

The ps3 version of RB doesn't work with the les paul because activision didn't want to give harmonix their drivers so it would work. When you plug in the controller the xbox doesn't recognize it as a guitar and thinks it is a normal controller = microphone, that's why it wants you to sing.
