Has anyone seen this show? Personally, I'm not impressed with what passes for science on the show.

Yeah, I think it's crap. Those are the stupidest people I've seen on TV in a show which they are trying to pass off as coming up with good ideas. All the shows have been crap and all their ideas have been bad ones and yet at the end of every episode they act like they've broke some ground when in reality their just stupid. There are obvious flaws to every one of their ideas and it's the worst show ever on the Discovery channel in my opinion. It would be better if they just smashed stuff up like the name implies but instead they come up with stupid ideas and act like their reading off scripts all the time.

Its like mythbusters, but without actual content. I like Brainiac and Mythbusters much more.

The thing that gets me is how unfeasible their ideas are and they act like they work fine and dandy and should be instituted immediately.

They thought the arrestor strip for highways worked even though it obviously didn't, they said that the bus would've stopped if it stayed on track to hit the cars and that making it more brittle would have stopped the bus completely. It was obvious that the bus would've hit the cars heavily and it didn't slow the bus down very much at all with how far it had to stop.

They thought wrapping an entire mobile home in carbon fiber was a good idea, completely disregarding the price that would cost.

They thought their train air cushion worked or would've worked better if their valves popped open correctly, it wouldn't have and would have made things even worse. The car flipped but they claimed it would've worked if the embankment didn't get in the way.

Last nights episode claimed that their ball bearing idea for earthquakes worked, completely ignoring that the earthquake wouldn't be going in one lateral direction but in all lateral direction. They also admitted that most normal houses would be able to sustain an earthquake and only existing houses with structural weaknesses would be at substantial risk. This brings to question why anyone would go through the trouble to newly build a structurally unsound house on ball bearings, why not build a structurally sound house on normal ground instead?

So they make excuses and completely ignore the obvious.images/smilies/lol.gif

The funny part about the Earthquake episode last night is that there are existing technologies similar to the "concepts" they put forth. I was screaming at the TV in an odd combination of intellectual frustration and sexual frustration for hiring someone who's not nearly hot enough!

Their ideas are almost comical, especially the carbon fiber on a trailer home one. images/smilies/wacko.gif

Stupid show. Everything the girl says is blatant. Thanks, Captain Obvious.

Haven't seen the show, sounds dreadful.

Mythbusters is one of the better pseudo-science shows and even they manage to fuck up nearly everything they do.

I have had the misfortune to see that woeful Braniac show hosted by Hammond. I can only assume their target demographic is < 15yo and < 80IQ.

Well, in the defense of the chick on Smash Lab. She graduated with her BS in ME in 2002 so she doesn't have much practical work experience, and most of her time has been spent hosting either a PBS show for kids to help spur interest in science or traveling the world.

Just saying...

You coulda just said, "In defense of the chick, she's a woman." images/smilies/lol.gif

Seriously though, you would think she could figure out her target audience and figure they have a basic background of science, or at very least that they can see what is happening on the show before their eyes without an explanation. I've only seen the first show, so maybe that's her role there or something. images/smilies/dunno.gif
