    Stargate SG-1's last season

    http://www.multichannel.com/article/...=Breaking+News

Apparently this was announced right after the 200th episode last week, a record for cable scripted television. No confirmation directly from SciFi as of yet, but the SciFi message boards are on fire. If you are a SciFi executive that was involved in making this decision, I reccomend getting into the witness protection program or moving to a bark hut in the Amazon. Never underestimate the conviction of SciFi geeks!

Seriously, this is the show that made SciFi a serious cable network, when they started SciFi was a second rate network making 3rd rate movies. SG-1 provided the audience to support Battlestar Gallactica and Stargate Atlantis. SciFi bloomed into the fastest growing cable network because of SG-1, and the show is far from stale.

This makes me so sad, I love SG-1.

Terrible news. Lets hope they decide to bring it back or create another show.

I dispise NBC, they always cancel the good shows on TV just because the ratings aren't quite as good as they expected.

It really is sad to see it go.

Well, everyone get off your asses and go tell SciFi about it. This may be comming down from NBC, so lets give them some ammunition to take to corperate.

This is the gist of my email:

Removing SG-1 will result in the death of SG Atlantis. Not only is SG-1 the stronger of the two shows, but they both share production costs. SG Atlantis will be unable to continue production if they have to shoulder the entire burden. The death of SG Atlantis leaves SciFi with Battlestar Gallactica and Eureka as the only shows with any draw, thus halving their effective lineup.
If money is the issue, cancel ECW Wrestling - SciFi geeks don't care about it anyway and are not watching it. Also you could cut back on the craptastic bimonthly movies and funnel some of that money into SG-1. I only ever made it through one of SciFi's made-for-tv-movies, and that's only because it had Bruce Campbell in it.
SG-1 is the anchor that holds down the entire weekly lineup of SciFi, killing it will set the network adrift and alienate the viewers they already have.

NBC seems to have a history of cancelling shows that I like.
Perhaps that says more about the US viewing public in general though. (Reality TV. )

If it weren't for SG-1 as the Friday night anchor BSG never would have made it past season one.

in addition to ECW, who wants to be a superhero can take a flying leap.

what was that show they had with all the short scifi films? bring that shit back along with saturday morning anime. Super cheap to produce and fills a time slot well.

    Bring back Seaquest DSV.
    Make an Aliens show.

How about The Amazing Screw-on Head. The pilot they released online was hillarious.

I've seen literally every single episode and I'm kinda glad it's going. As much as I like the show, it's kinda dragging on and they just keep coming up with new bad guys and such.

I never got into Stargate SG-1, and i consider myself a Sci-Fi geek. I do respect the fact that this hour long Sci-Fi has been around forever, but i wont be particularly sad to see it go. Sci-Fi has some other series (Battlestar Gallactica, Stargate Atlantis, Who Wants to be a Superhero, that new show Eureka) that it can thrive off of.

A bit more info from SciFi.com

    SG-1 Ends Run; Atlantis Back

SCI FI Channel confirmed that it will not renew its record-breaking original series Stargate SG-1 for another season, but will pick up its spinoff series Stargate Atlantis for a fourth year. SG-1 aired its 200th episode on Aug. 18, and the SF series is the longest-running SF show on American television.

SCI FI issued the following statement on Aug. 21: "SCI FI Channel is proud to be the network that brought Stargate SG-1 to its record-breaking 10th season. Ten seasons and 215 episodes is an astounding, Guinness World Record-setting accomplishment. Stargate is a worldwide phenomenon. Having achieved so much over the course of the past 10 years, SCI FI believes that the time is right to make this season their last on the channel. SCI FI is honored to have been part of the Stargate legacy for five years, and we look forward to continuing to explore the Stargate universe with our partners at MGM through a new season of Stargate Atlantis."

Stargate SG-1, developed for television by executive producers Brad Wright and Jonathan Glassner, is based on the 1994 feature film Stargate. SG-1, which originally starred Richard Dean Anderson, Michael Shanks, Amanda Tapping and Christopher Judge, began on Showtime, then moved to SCI FI after five seasons. The current cast includes Tapping, Shanks and Judge and newcomers Ben Browder, Claudia Black and Beau Bridges. It airs Fridays at 9 p.m. ET/PT.

maybe we're looking at this the wrong way. Since SciFi is dropping it, it'll leave the door open for another network to pick up the series for a few more seasons.

Who Wants To Be a Superhero is not only staged and scripted but it's getting panned by the fans at SciFi.com. SG-Atlantis won't make it without SG-1 to share the production costs (they share lots of sets, props and personnell). Eureka is definetly a good show, but it does not have the staying power of SG-1, which offered nearly unlimited possibilities while Eureka is stuck in a small town. As far as I'm concerned, any SciFi show has not truely jumped the shark until they go to a Nazi planet - then the writers are out of ideas.

Battlestar Gallactica has some good staying power, and it's a good show. You notice that NBC distanced BSG from the Stargate shows this year instead of doing a powerful SciFi Friday like they have in the past.

SG-1 was really the anchor show, without it I don't see the network doing as well.
