At the moment they recon it has taken $155.3 million over the weekend, which makes it the biggest weekend gross ever beating spiderman 3 at $155.1 million. However final figures will be out on monday.

To be honest, I'm still digesting the movie, but the fact that the room was packed for a Sunday matinee showing in a small, suburban theater says a lot.

Also, this just became the #1 movie on imdb by a rather large margin.

Watched it yesterday and if there's one word to describe it , it's AMAZING. I'm truly happy with it, as I always enjoyed Batman. This movie set a new standart in comics adaptations too, that's for sure.

ed- just batman, other superhero movies have the freedom to be whatever they want, but after these 2 great films it would be a tragedy to change what batman has become.

They just shot all their outside photography in 100% recognizable chicago skyline and city streets and told the audience to suspend disbelief and say 'really, this is gotham city, i dont care if you recognize the Sears Tower and chicago river that was featured prominently in chicago-centric movies like Blues Brothers and The Fugitive'

Remember Wayne Tower from the first movie and the beautiful architecture of the madeup building, and in this one they took a well known chicago highrise and slapped on some cheap looking 'WAYNE' letters at the top. Plus many sharp eyed reviewers noticed signs that still said 'Chicago Municipal...something something' scattered throughout the film.

bottom line, Chicago is not a Gotham-looking city, even a 'cleaned up' Gotham.
I'm sure Nolan had his reasons, I doubt it was a matter of laziness or an oversight. Frankly, it didn't concern me at all while watching. I was marvelling at how beautiful all the IMAX scenes were, if it were artificial it wouldn't have worked as well.

There was already such a heavy tone to the film, adding in a Gotham like the first would have really been depressing. But I could go either way on that.

I loved it. I... can't even describe it in a few words. Let me get the negatives off my chest. I want to talk more about positives and I don't want to make it seem like I hated the movie or something.

Negatives: There were a couple of cheesy moments, mostly that part with Rachel + Batman where he asks if what she said about her getting back with him was true. The other negative was batman's voice, it seemed like they induced laryngitis into him before filming. It was weird to hear and kind of overdone at parts.

HOWEVER!!!!! Now we get to the positives.

It's a tragedy that Heath passed on. In all the superhero movies I've seen, I've never ever encountered such an awesome villain. He played way too terrifically. I don't think anyone can even touch him when it comes to this. I hope there isn't a sequel (I'm sure there won't be but just in case), it won't even be a 1/4 as good as this. Best line in the entire film "Hi" (when he's the nurse). FUCKING EPIC AND CLASSIC. Second best line in the film "Watch as I make this pencil disappear". Laughed my ass off at the ownage and awesome-age.

Usually in one of those cheesy superhero movies, the hero is always the knight in shining armor, the paladin, the good, and the villain of course brings in the dark tones in the movie. What I really very much enjoyed in this is the reversal. Batman brought in all the dark tones, and the joker was the light-hearted yet violent and terror-inducing person. Absolutely sublime.

The story itself was great. A few predictable things (like the bomb in the guy's stomach) but quite a few twists as well. The part where he threw the detonator out the window, wasn't expecting that.

Great, just great.

I'm not sure if I can compare this with the other superhero movie I saw recently: Ironman. Ironman is too light-hearted but brilliant nonetheless. RD Jr did an excellent job. I think these movies go as a pair really. One light, the other dark.

One horrible thing about tonight was the volume in the theatre. Everything was so fucking loud, even soft conversations. So when it came time for bullets to be fired the entire audience went deaf. It actually hurt my ears pretty bad. I probably won't be hearing anything for the next couple days, but I somewhat don't mind.

What's stuck in my mind is the part of when he's in the interrogation room, and asks the person guarding how many of his friends were killed...and the cop said "six"...and The Joker kinda mouthed "six"...pretending it was a big deal, but not really because so many more are going to die. Chilling.

I'm sure some less intelligent viewers will just see it as a goodguys vs badguys movie, and in some ways i'm jealous of them, cause they'll just be entertained and get on with their lives, but others i could tell in the movie theater, were shifting uncomfortably in their own seats during many of the joker's really intense scenes, not because he was bizarre or foreign, but because he's a very ugly mirror for ourselves.

that's my two cents.
Less intelligent? Or people who just dont really care to have a load of steaming hot morals shoved down their throats? I consider myself to be in the latter category. I can tell when a movie uses its half-baked plot to force feed me some unwelcome political commentary, and it's not something that I take any particular interest in. My conscience is clear, so I'll take my couple of hours entertainment, and then I will get on with my life, thankyou very much.

Pretty good movie though, beautiful cinematography and the acting was pretty top notch. It was let down by a rather haphazard plot, but then again, it's a comic book film and therefore to be expected. I guess I ought to now go back and watch Batman Begins now. As for Christopher Nolan's work, I've only ever seen The Prestige which ranks as one of my favourite movies. This movie was not dissimilar in themes and film techniques and I thoroughly enjoyed it.

That was a very good part in the movie. My other favorite moment was on the ferry with the prisoners. "You don't know how to take a life. Give it to me, I'll do what you should have done 10 minutes ago" *throws it out the window*.

When that happened it sort of sent the message that even these guys who have (we assume) at some point in time stolen or murdered or committed other wanton acts of crime have a sense of morality and humanity. "We're still here, which means they haven't blown us up" (or something along those lines).

Call me crazy, but after watching it a second time, I think my least favorite part of the film was Batman himself. He was surrounded by some phenomenal acting, and he by no means was poorly done, but compared to lets say, the Joker, Batman was kind of meh.

Oh. My. God.

Saw it last night.

Loved it, absolutely loved it. Best movie I've seen in quite a while.

Heath Ledger was chilling as The Joker, just a superb performance, what an actor, it's sad he can't do more work like that. Wow.

11/10, easily.

Watched it last night...and YES, it it so awesome that it will bring world peace, alien contact and the second coming of Christ.
The only nitpick I have is the "Batman voice". Other than that, it is epic, phenomenal and really really really well made. The Joker is terrifying but it makes you want to see more of it. And THAT'S terrifying.

Glad to see I wasn't the only one annoyed by that.

It is a very good movie. I very much enjoyed it but I must not be the Batman type because I didn't love it as much as most seem to go on about here and basically everywhere. I don't know exactly why, maybe it is because I knew some of the character's 'destiny' (Gordon, Dent)...

images/smilies/icon_idea.gif Am I glad I didn't read this thread before I saw the movie !
Some of you need to learn to use the 'spoiler' function, namely LurkerPatrol but he is not the only one here.

Nope, its not your imagination, Batman's acting was probably the weakest in the film, not that he was bad, but so overshadowed by multiple brilliant, intense performances (Ledger, Eckhart, Oldman)

Heath Ledger (Joker) really took a motorcycle to a 26 mile running marathon. Batman was subpar to be honest. The guy apparently hit his mom and his sister at some promo for the movie or something.

Bale's acting definitely wasn't weak, it's just that this movie didn't focus as much on his character.

Don't you find that a bit ridiculous and hard to take? If they had morality and humanity then they wouldn't be prisoners now would they.
