Will Smith has joined the ranks of Hollywood power players actively recruiting for the Church of Scientology.
Big stars traditionally distribute "wrap presents" to crew members after completing a film. His recent gift after wrapping next summer's comedy "Hancock" was a card good for a personality test at your local Scientology center.
Never mind that such tests are given free by the church anyway. The quiz is designed to convert people to the religion by identifying personality flaws that - surprise! - Scientology can fix right up for you.
Smith, who is best buddies with Scientology booster Tom Cruise, has never confirmed that he joined the church. But he told "Access Hollywood" last month: "I was introduced to it by Tom, and I'm a student of world religion. I was raised in a Baptist household. I went to a Catholic school, but the ideas of the Bible are 98% the same ideas of Scientology, 98% the same ideas of Hinduism and Buddhism."

I don't really care what religion the actor follows. If you really want to get down to it most of the major religions out there have killed many more and are just as crazy if you take the stories to be literal.

This situation reminds me of John Travolta, when he was outed as a scientologist,
he made a bunch of 90's movies where he always stars as some sort of great guy
who has special powers, but is a down-to-earth sorta person ( Phenomenon, Michael )... Will Smith seems to be re-doing Michael, only instead of a funky angel from heaven, Will stars as Hancock, the grumpy superhero hobo or something.

Those three aren't very similar either. Even the faiths which are based on almost identical traditions ( Judaism, Christianity and Islam ) aren't similar at all.

Im not saying that the story behind Scientology makes a lot more sense than say Christianity, but can we please stop calling it a Religion? Germany got the right idea America are just too scared of getting killed / sued if they try.

If Will Smith had converted to.. I don't know, some bullshit religion i'd just think he was rather foolish but being a active member of Scientology means he's either fucking retarded or a money grabbing whore, the huge amount of money he is going to spit into Scientology is being used to further cushion the life of it's top people and at the same time keep down any criticism with their horde of lawyers.

The cult is being banned in germany due to repeated human rights violations. In the states they have a massive PR and lawering machine to cover up their illicit actions - but in spite of all that cover up, the fact remains that what they are doing on a regular basis is essentially fraud, harassment, and extortion. In spite of this, the family of a victim of scientology's mistreatment was awarded several million dollars in a settlement not that long ago. So they do occasionally get caught with their pants down and have to answer for their crimes
