So, I've been thinking of getting a PMR handset for the upcoming Ringmeet, possibly with a headset of some kind (a throat microphone would be a cool piece of kit.) Thus I ventured into the Internets, and was overwhelmed by the amount of choice available. So I'm essentially looking for opinions on what to, and what not to get, as I'm not particularly well versed in the assessment of the specs of different radios.

Currently I'm looking at Midland G7, which seems like a solid piece of kit for the sort of price I've set aside. Also I'd prefer to not buy a kit with two or more radios, as I've figured I'd rather get one good one.

Another thing is what kind of experience people have possibly had of using units with transmission power over 500mW, which is the upper limit for license-free operation? Would any authorities possibly have it in them to give a damn?

Commence discussion.

Foobar VS Winamp VS iTunes

Which of these players do you prefer?

I use itunes but I also made this thread to ask for help since I've considered switching to foobar for quite some time now. iTunes' inability to play FLAC is a huge bummer not to mention I'm pretty sure foobar sounds better (?).

What I loved about itunes was its ease of use, it made sense and my music library was organized around it. I have all my music in one place: the windows 7 default music library, and nothing is separated into folders. I just dragged and dropped the music I wanted in the itunes library and the layout was very easy to navigate.

Foobar feels a bit more intimidating and confusing since it somehow found music that I haven't organized or that I don't listen to anymore.

I've also tread into customizing the look of foobar with skins and such but nothing seems to work like itunes does. Maybe I'm just retarded but in itunes, if I wanted to find an artist, I'll just click the column that organizes all the artists and scroll there. It feels so much clunkier in foobar.

Halppls.

Ok folks, I'm shipping off to grad school in september and these are the types of programs I will be running, probably all at the same time:

Rhino (modeling)
Autocad (drawings)
Revit (BIM modeling)
Python & Grasshopper (parametric scripting)
3d Studio Max (rendering)
Adobe Photoshop (graphics)
Adobe Illustrator (graphics/line work)
Adobe Indesign (Design layouts)

In addition, I'll probably be running applications like quicktime and perhaps even some audio editing software. Again, with my method of work I run all of these simultaneously, which is a pretty massive drain on both GPU and CPU.

Basically I'm looking for a solid desktop PC that can run all of these for hours on end with minimal slow down and no overheating. My budget is around $1000. I already have a monitor and things like that, but I wouldn't be against getting a complete set so I can have 2 monitors.

Any help would be appreciated! I know concepts, but I'm not well versed on specifics when it comes to computers, so it's difficult for me to know what to look for.
