Well, other than the limited slip needing new clutches.

Ford 8.8 rear. Aftermarket gearset,

I discovered today that if I grab the tire and push/pull on it, I get a disturbing amount of in/out movement and a satisfying/terrifying 'clunk' noise. About 1/8th inch of movement... I'm already aware the carrier isn't shimmed properly (one of the shims is askew). I was hoping to avoid doing a rebuild immediately - if I do that, I'm likely to have to put it in the hands of a shop and pay dearly.

From the way I understand the rear end is put together, the C-clip should make this more or less impossible, which is confusing. And if the C-clip is missing, I should damn well have found out about it the hard way by now.

Also, there's the occasional loud screeching noise coming from the rear under power and slip. Probably metal-on-metal in the clutch packs....

So I've completely disassembled my Dellorto carb and I want to thoroughly clean the body and it's passageways. Ideally I would use an ultrasonic cleaner or a dishwasher, but since the ultra's are very expensive, and I'm hesitant to put gasoline in my dishwasher, I've decided to do some sort of soak.

So here are some ideas for a cleaning solution I've gathered from scouring the internet:

Vinegar
Simple Green
Carb Cleaning Solution
Draino
Diesel
Gasoline

I'm leaning towards vinegar at the moment, although It's a longer cleaning process from what I've heard. Should be a little more healthy for me to use vinegar as well.

Thoughts?

I need some advice on restoring a really old Peugeot.

Well my friend who is also a member on this forum, Made in Trollhättan, as only a few of you may notice (Not many people visited his thread, well it's title has a grammar error) He currently own a 1969 Peugeot 404, he bought it for a few years ago, and it was a lovely car, running well and all.

And then there was this big flood here in Bangkok 2 years ago :( and the car basically is toasted... well not toast, more like flooded. But he still have the car, he has a plan to make it running again. But there is a few problem with it.

The first problem is, his budget into doing it up is whatever he'll get from selling his current daily driven Volvo 760, which he reckon he can get around $3,400. The second problem is that spare parts for the 404 are extremely scarce. And the third... well the car itself is in pretty bad shape, he didn't drained the coolant or petrol, actually he didn't drained any fluids, it's in there for 2 years and I believe that's not good.

He's willing to do works himself, well, some, he's not that experienced DIYer, he bought this Workshop manual for it but it doesn't mean he can do everything that in there obviously. So here are the questions

How should he do this restoration work? I mean, where should he start?
What's the actual effect of not draining any fluid did to it?
What parts could be salvage?
Is there any other place in the world that there is still some 404 parts left? It's almost impossible to find one here in Thailand.
He thinks he'll swap 4A-GE in it, because the original engine is probably seized, what kind of Drivetrain should he use? What gearbox? What diff?

More question will probably arrive later as the project progress. But that's all we can think of right now, thanks in advance for every answer. :)
