Shoot-out:

I wouldn't want to go off roading in that but that's exactly it and BMW and Porsche have got it.
No one will so they make them to handle on the road.
I wonder what kind of time the Turbo Cayenne would have got ? images/smilies/think.gif

Brits... Sometimes it gets to me the way they depict their car industry.
All car makers have their strengths and weaknesses.

Poorly placed pride, me thinks.

American shows do the same thing. Car & Driver TV picked the Ford GT over the Ferrari Challenge Stradale and Porsche GT3. Yeah, the GT may be quick in a straight line, but no way does it have the refinement of its two European competitors. Watching that show, you'd think the Corvette was the greatest thing on four wheels.

well its something called Bias.

I was totally blown away that Jag got most prestigious car?? Gimme a break.

I'd like to think that the entire world would probably agree the C-Class is the most prestigious out of the bunch. They didn't even give any details about the survey. For all we know, it could've just been a 100 people images/smilies/lol.gif

The Merc is a far nicer ride than the Jag...

And I can see the vibrating seats being the key selling feature...

If this car is a big seller I'm going to make some decals that say "No Officer, I'm not drunk, my seat vibrates as I change lanes without warning." for the back window images/smilies/smile.gif

I'm thinking I may have to explain the smirk if I ever see a hot girl step out of one of those cars images/smilies/biggrin.gif

I'm also tempted to go to the dealer with a friend and ask if they can make the passenger seat vibrate for her too images/smilies/biggrin.gif

The standard Aux-Input is a feature I'd like to see more cars adopt though.

As for the 4x4 test, am I mistaken or did they really just test the top spec small X5 against the mid-lower spec big heavy Cayenne?

And yes, people do take the Cayenne offroad.

http://www.porschecluboman.com/photogallery/photo31201/Cayen0074.JPG Click here for a much bigger picture

Had they tested the Turbo against their precious X5, the results would have been very different. The Cayennes understeer was surprising though... it looked like it just wanted to get some more time in offroad images/smilies/lol.gif

I agree that the Jag should be the most 'prestigious' car there, but for all the wrong reasons.... Nobody under 50 in their right mind would wanna own one, therefore you don't see a lot of them (at least in Norway), so they seem more 'exclusive' even though they shouldn't.

Mercs are more common than Mazdas over here (95% of all cabs in Norway are mercs btw, I kid you not), so I'd in fact rate the Merc dead last in that batch. It's about as prestigious as an Avensis in my eyes. Remember these are the low-end cars we're talking about.. buying the cheapest option of a brand doesn't equal prestige. It's like wearing a gucci t-shirt (or whatever's good these days, i dunno) compared to a suit... right? images/smilies/tongue.gif Bear in mind that I don't consider the A and the vans to be real Mercs here images/smilies/wink.gif

In fact I'd rate them Merc > BMW > VW > Lexus > Audi > Jag, based on the image associated with them over here.

It's not as much about liking Audis as not disliking them. They're pretty honest, well engineered, well designed, overpriced cars. You won't get labeled a drugdealer or a geriatric when you're in an Audi, so I don't agree on the old fart image (I guess that's dependent on where you live). That spot's pretty much owned by Mercedes. And we all know that the creeps still drive BMWs. images/smilies/wink.gif

yeah, i have to agree that the jag is nothing compared to a merc. mercedes make far better cars then jaguars. if that survey was held here in the u.s. the jag would not be in be even in the top 3.

I think though if we were looking at the big boys like the E-Class, 5 Series and Jaguar XJ though, I'd say that the XJ is the most prestigous. It just has so much more old school style, charm and snobbery then the other two IMO.

S-type competes with the E-class and 5 series and the A6

but if you meant 7, S, and A8 then yeah, I'd have to vote the XJ as the most prestigous, but that's it, not reliable, not quietest...etc images/smilies/smile.gif

As for the S type being most prestigious in it's class, I'd have to say no to that.

It's named the IS200 in Europe cause it has a 2.0 litre engine, the IS300 has a 3.0 litre engine... images/smilies/smile.gif
