A diesel engine out of a F-350 or Ram 3500 would easily produce more torque.

Car: BMW E36 323i superleggera (-85 kg) Rep Power: 56 ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() | Data of the most powerful Diesels I found on the Net: F-350: 6.0l V8 Diesel, 325 hp, 550 lb-ft Ram 3500: 5.9l I6 Diesel, 325 hp, 610 lb-ft ... compared to ... Touareg: 5.0l V10 Diesel, 313 hp, 553 lb-ft Yes, that is more than the Touareg (for the Ram at least), if not a by huge margin though. And I dare to say they'll not have the same power delivery and smoothness as the TDI. Regards the Interceptor

silly thing to say... "on earth...." apparently you know nothing about diesel engines in marine use.... engines big enough that they have a magnetically sealed door so that the mechanic can walk inside and make sure all the pistons still look good from the bottom. | also i worked on transport engines in school.... 400 hp inline 6 engines with about 1900 ft/lbs... that's about average 600hp with about 2300ft/lbs and i hear that the transports in Austrailia can be considerably bigger considering their road trains that hull like 3-4 trailors on the back.

![]() The Wartsila-Sulzer RTA96-C turbocharged two-stroke diesel engine is the most powerful and most efficient prime -mover in the world today. The Aioi Works of Japan's Diesel United, Ltd built the first engines and is where some of these pictures were taken. It is available in 6 through 14 cylinder versions, all are inline engines. These engines were designed primarily for very large container ships. Ship owners like a single engine /single propeller design and the new generation of larger container ships needed a bigger engine to propel them. The cylinder bore is just under 38" and the stroke is just over 98". Each cylinder displaces 111,143 cubic inches (1820 liters) and produces 7780 horsepower. Total displacement comes out to 1,556,002 cubic inches (25,480 liters) for the fourteen cylinder version. Some facts on the 14 cylinder version: Total engine weight: 2300 tons Length: 89 feet Height: 44 feet Maximum power: 108,920 hp at 102 rpm Maximum torque: 5,608,312 lb/ft at 102rpm Fuel consumption at maximum power is 0.278 lbs per hp per hour (Brake Specific Fuel Consumption). Fuel consumption at maximum economy is 0.260 lbs/hp/hour. At maximum economy the engine exceeds 50% thermal efficiency. That is, more than 50% of the energy in the fuel in converted to motion. For comparison, most automotive and small aircraft engines have BSFC figures in the 0.40-0.60 lbs/hp/hr range and 25-30% thermal efficiency range. Even at it's most efficient power setting, the big 14 consumes 1,660 gallons of heavy fuel oil per hour. link http://people.bath.ac.uk/ccsshb/12cyl/ some interesting pictures there for you guys. if you notice in the pic i posted, there is a latter in each allowance for the crankshaft so people can get in and out

Rep Power: 0 ![]() | hello scoops, i was talking about Cars... isn't it the topic here? of course there are more powerfull engines than VW's and a car running with an engine going at 102rpm might not be very fast!! Also The V12 TDI is for now the most powerfull AND efficient engine in the world in production... the Peugeot's is 515bhp but only on paper... I've seen the car at the Paris AutoShow it's named Peugeot 908 RC. (check google to see this prototype pictures )

| the best part is you took the time to reply thinking that was a serious come back, but i'd just like to throw in the mix, the mercedes bi-turbo engine. 612 hp and 728 or 738ftlbs... and that's on gas again... | |

Car: BMW E36 323i superleggera (-85 kg) Rep Power: 56 ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() | I watched the FG episode again to see what the hairy guy actully said. He said:"When I first tested the Volkswagen Touareg way back in 2003, I actually tested the power of its awesome 5 Litre V10 Diesel, which at the time was one of the worlds most powerful engines, by just dragging lots of heavy stuff around.". He was referring to 2003, so forget about the Q7 engine. And compared to the figures I found of the most powerful US Diesels (referring to car engines!), the V10 TDI was at the time and still is one of the most powerful Diesels in the world. There's nothing wrong with that statement. Regards the Interceptor

Rep Power: 17 ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() | Old Top Gear fan goes Fifth Gear watching. Thanks to chickenkiller and his download facility, finally I started to have a look at Fifth Gear. Saw only one FG episode a long time ago (the one with Vicki driving her scared mother around in a Lamborghini). This was my second, randomly chosen on the download site. And to my own surpise, I liked it. The banter between Tiff and Plato seemed very natural. That Audi/BMW-segment was like Top Gear, just with other people, but absolutely on the same entertainement level. Very good. According to the answers of others on finalgear.com the Lovejoy guy must be really bad in other episodes. I will see. I liked him here, during his part with the threeweeler. He really seemend in his element as a daily scooter driver. The cafe parts however... ok, I'm a man, so Vicky has the T&A-Bonus, but that bonus is very small, because she goes on my nerves in seconds. She is like a constantly overexited kid. Believable when she does the two wheel stuff, but not so when sitting at a table and simply explaining what comes next on your screen. I don't watch TV a lot, so I'm not used to commercial breaks. Sure, they are fortunately cut out in the download, but the preview parts are still there. And I hate them. One of the main reasons for my generally loss of interest for watching television. The first time I saw a preview for news, I stopped. The preview was longer then the actual news. After reading some comment about Tom Ford in other threads, I think I will see better and funnier stuff from him while watching other episodes. The spike hair guy looks like the usual I'm-so-individual idiot, but is actually very good in what he does. Loved how he lengthened the joke with the hog pep talk. Totalized: I liked what I saw, I don't care that I watch old episodes. I don't wanna buy I car, I wanna be entertained. And this episode reached that goal. *goes downloading more episodes* |
