Guy Wadsworth tests a life-saving lamp-post that disintegrates on impact. Tom Ford test-drives the Ariel Atom, which has no doors, no windscreen and no bodywork but accelerates faster than the McLaren F1. And Tiff Needell and Jason Plato go head-to-head in two new American cars - the Corvette C6, which has the biggest engine on sale today, and the Dodge SRT10.

Corvette C6 - biggest engine on sale today? Isn't the Viper's bigger? They even are in the same sentence...

I'm fairly certain there is an 8L V10 in the viper, not sure if it still is, but they had one in the past. Not sure how big the Corvette's engine is though.

I think the Corvette is 6.7, at the max, and the new Viper has a 8.3...

I think it should've been the C6-Z06 against the SRT-10 a bit more fair, no? But I guess the wait for the Z06 was too long.

7.0L V8 vs. 8.3L V10. 8)

Well, it does cost much more and has way more horsepower. That still doesn't mean they can't compare the "handling" of the two and stuff. I mean, they are really the only 2 true muscle cars made in America, although the Mustang is somewhat on it's way back.

... I ask Herb Helbig, vehicle synthesis manager for SRT and a member of the original Team Viper development group since day one, if they'd ever thought of adding traction control. "It comes with two," he says, pointing at my feet. "Learn to use them." Got it.

I agree with Cruzz....they should have used the Z06, using a C6 plays the cards into the hands of the Viper waaay to much.

What about the new Shelby Mustang they showed at New York? That should be a good competitor to the Viper and the Z06. It has the same engine as the Ford GT, just de-tuned a bit. 450+ horsepower and 450+ torque, I think.
