This week’s edition of Five’s motoring show focuses on track days, in which sports-car owners take their vehicles to racing circuits and throw them around the tarmac. Tiff Needell provides the definitive guide, demonstrating how to prepare the car and then get the best out of it. His tool for job is the new Audi S3 – the UK’s most expensive, most powerful hot hatch.

Honda has just launched an all-new version of their popular 4x4, the CR-V. But this is a 4x4 with a difference, because it is not going to wreck the planet. In fact, the car comes with a letter stating that it is greener than a Mini. Tom Ford presents his car and his letter to a few anti-4x4 activists – can he persuade them that big is beautiful?

Earlier this year a father and son duo won the 8,000-mile Mongol Rally in a 15-year-old Daihatsu Charade costing just £150. So was this a fluke or is this unassuming little car genuinely tough? Vicki Butler-Henderson tests an identical vehicle to the point of destruction.

Elsewhere, Jonny Smith enters a 0–60 competition in the UK’s slowest-accelerating production car – the 800cc Chevrolet Matiz automatic. Clearly he is not going to win, but can he meet his own challenge and beat the manufacturer’s 0–60 figure of 22 seconds?

Hhmmm....this ep doesn't have much going for it apart from the S3

Who really cares Will it make the segment any better if he does achieve a sub-22 time? No.

Actually sounds interesting. Looking forward to this. What I've read about the new S3, it's quite nice.

Enviromentalists getting owned. Like the idea.

Potential, however I doubt Vicky will pull it off.

Can he get the car to 60 in less time than he spends every morning in front of the mirror on his hair? Seems like a quite peculiar challenge.

Err.. I love the thought of comming to a AMCAR street meet with a Matiz. It's a Chevy you know.

Bit of an update on this ep...

Tiff Needell and Jason Plato go to battle in another of their famous dogfights, this time with a BMW Z4 Coupe and an Audi TT. Both cars have a top speed of 155mph and will reach 0-60 in 5.7 secs. But although the BMW has a few more horsepower, at £31400 it's nearly £2000 more expensive than the Audi. As usual three tests will decide whether the renowned poise of the BMW will be enough to beat the four wheel drive grip of the Audi. It's a close match and a tense fight. We'll give the winner away

onny Smith travels to the General Motors test facility in Germany to find out how motor manufacturers test airbags. Nobody wants to get a face full of cushion whilst they're driving along so manufacturers put their cars through rigorous tests to make sure the bags don't fire unnecessarily. Jonny plays the part of live crash test dummy, and has to endure emergency braking in a gravel trap, a direct hit on a wild boar and a ramped take off. It's must see viewing, if only to see a flying Corsa

Piaggio have just launched their MP3, the first three wheeled scooter. Piaggio claim the two front wheels give the bike improved braking, cornering and grip. Lovejoy is Fifth Gear's resident scooter expert - he rides one every day and takes to the road and track to see whether three really is the magic number.

erry Grant has already shown us his talents with his donutting car stunts - so now we've asked him to teach Vicki Butler-Henderson another trick. Driving a car on two wheels took him three whole weeks to master. With Terry's expert teaching, can Vicki accomplish this astonishing feat within just one day?

om Ford tests the true power of the Touareg. Loyal viewers of the programme will remember the episode of Fifth Gear where we set the VW Touareg a towing challenge and made it drag a people carrier driving in the opposite direction, a telegraph pole and a combine harvester. But now we've upped the ante, and we're going to try and tow a whole jet, a jumbo jet - a Boeing 747. If Tom manages it, it'll be a new world record for the heaviest thing towed by a production vehicle.

We've all seen footage of crash test dummies, and many of us look at the safety ratings on new cars. But do we really understand the information we're looking at? Euro NCAP stars are awarded according to crash test performance, but how many of us actually know what the testing involves? We'll be revealing exactly how the assessments are carried out and telling you what to watch out for when you're comparing the scores.
