Tom Ford gets his hands on the latest version of one of Britain’s favourite cars, the Land Rover Defender. Tom fits enormous 38-inch wheels and a full expedition kit to the vehicle so that he can give this off-roader the ultimate work out against the spectacular scenery and glaciers of Iceland.

Blur bassist Alex James has a reputation for living the high life – as a member of one of the leading bands of the 90s, he travelled to recording sessions by piloting his own plane. Nowadays Alex is living a quieter life on a Cotswolds farm, but his love of big boys’ toys remains. He asks Fifth Gear to help him live out the ultimate boy’s fantasy: getting to play with a £750,000, 150-foot high crane. And just to reaffirm his rock and roll credentials, Alex decides to bungee jump from the top of the crane into his front garden!

Jonny Smith celebrates Ferrari’s 60th birthday by driving the flagship 612 Scaglietti from London to the factory in Modena. Worth nearly £200,000, the car boasts a top speed of 199 mph. Jonny has an appointment with Ferrari’s CEO, Jean Todt, to hand over a special birthday present – but with over 1,000 miles to cover in less than 48 hours, will he make it in time?

Also this week, Jason Plato and Tiff Needell settle a pub debate: which is quickest, a supercar or a race car? Tiff takes the helm of a FormulaFord race car while Jason faces up to him in a Ford GT, the 202-mph limited production dream car. The cars have similar power-to-weight ratios, and both get to 60mph in around three seconds. But which will be quickest on a circuit?

Plus, former Spice Girl Melanie C joins Vicki Butler-Henderson to discuss Mel’s racing driver brother and the cars that she bought with the proceeds of her pop career, before having a go at a radical stunt involving a quad bike...

I'm definately looking forward to Tom's bit in the Defender in Iceland because the last time he went to Iceland in 4X4's (many years ago), it made for a terrific segment.

I don't have a clue who Alex James is nor do I care. A crane is not a car. This is not deserving of a spot on this show. Why are they doing it?!?

Who are Blur? some crappy emo band, I want CARS not fucking cranes. And Mel C? what next they bring back Lovejoy. soon watching 5th Gear will be like watching bloody GMTV.

Tom in the Land Rover will be good, hope its an extra long segment so we don't have to endure the rest of the crap.

Where as I understand everyones annoyance it may be a bit of fun so I am going to give the Crane a chance. I am going to enjoy the Plato/Tiff race - money is on Tiff - he's the man.

Once again, as I've said with the previous 2 eps, VBH's segments sounds totally useless.

And Blur? Man, talk about desperate for publicity, I haven't heard anything from them since the 90's!

A crane and a bike have no place in a car show. The only time a bike worked was when Clarkson raced the Atom against one.

Looking foreward to the segment with Tiff and Jason. Those guys have great chemistry and they're fun to watch. Also, i'm interested in Jonny's segment, he's really improved. I like Tom's reviews, but I can't say i'm interested in the car.

It'll be closed when a rip becomes available. As I'm sure you know through reading the news, The Scene obviously hasn't captured this ep however it re-airs on Saturday at 10:00 AM so hopefully it is captured then and we can lock this thread.

As for Vuk - he hasn't captured any of the Fifth Gear eps as yet. I'm not sure why myself but we've been doing okay relying on The Scene....

He's been busy and I told him to take the time off. The Scene is faster (most of the time) than he is due to real life issues and upload speed and provides basically the same quality of rip.

He's possibly having PC issues, but I'm not sure (can't remember).

I was wrong about the crane - sucked about as much fun out of it as possible. Rest of the show was OK and the race was good.
