    [17x01] June 3rd, 2010

    Episode 1 of 10
    *NEW TIME - THURSDAYS @ 7:30PM*

Returning to Five this week for its 17th series is the fast-paced motoring magazine show hosted by Tiff Needell, Vicki Butler-Henderson, Jason Plato and Jonny Smith. In this episode, Lewis Hamilton gives his verdict on an amazing new supercar, while Tiff and Vicki test out some of the latest super-speedy hatches. Elsewhere, Jason hits the Italian highways in a Ferrari 458 Italia, and Jonny takes a city car challenge.

Down at the track, Tiff and Vicki have been challenged to put four of the nippiest hatchbacks on the market to the test. The Ford Focus SR, the Mégane Renaultsport 250, the Mazda3 MPS and the Volkswagen Scirocco R are seriously hot property, but just how hot? To find out, Vicki and Tiff go head to head in a drag race and timed lap. For the ultimate test, the winning car then goes up against a powerful Porsche Boxster.

Meanwhile, Jonny examines a pair of city cars – the Smart ForTwo and the Toyota iQ. Both vehicles are small, sweet and just right for nipping about town. But are they any better than their iconic predecessor, the original Mini? Jonny completes a series of challenges that pit old against new to find out just how much difference 50 years can make.

Over in Italy, Jason gets behind the wheel of the supercar of the moment – the Ferrari 458 Italia. Valued at a cool £170,000, the Italia boasts stunning looks, breathtaking performance and a 560bhp engine.

Finally, Tiff talks to 2008 F1 World Champion Lewis Hamilton about the British supercar threatening to take Ferrari’s crown. Lewis is one of the few people in the world to have driven the groundbreaking McLaren MP4-12C, and he tells Tiff first-hand what the soon-to-be iconic motor has to offer.

Sounds good, but I don't think June 3rd is "this week" (didn't realise the write articles this far in advance)

Best wishes to Tom Ford and I'm sure most of us hope to see him on another car program soon.

Don't worry, I'll gift two Tom Fords to you so you'll have one in the end.

That sounds fairly good, but I wish they'd quit the habit of coming up with stupid "challenges" and substitute them with useful information about the cars. And: no Tom Ford? I'm sad.

I agree with everyone else that I will miss Tom Ford. I'd rather he'd have stayed instead of Jonny. Oh well... at least there's no Tim

sans Tom Ford makes me sad, but I'd rather have more Tiff and Jason than more of Tom Ford yakking it up with that jacktard. And I'm fine with Johnny's challenges. He at least brings some good info to his segments (and sometimes some pretty damn good fun...).

At last a good all round episode. Thius looks like a fun time for all.

Can't wait for the downloads, Australia is about 2 years behind in 5th gear and about 12 months on top gear and both are cut to fit commercial time slots

    Bring them on.

Good thing that idiot is gone. God I hated his fat mug filling up the screen. Seriously, how does he squeeze that breadloaf body into tight T-shirts? I much preferred the other guy who was added later Tim perhaps??, less smarmy. If they could only boot Jonny I would be happy with the lineup. Jason, Tiff, VBH are all excellent and Tim does good regular car stuff.

Well I didn't mind Tom and Johnny they are both good car reviewers, better than Tim, although it was only his first job on TV if I'm not mistaken, so I choose to cut him a little slack. I think the last series had just too many presenters in it really, i mean Vicki wasn't there that much but even without her there were too many. Three people is enough.

They have returned to the half hour format. I am not sure if that is a good or bad thing. Should make the episode's flow better though.

Edit: So without the Adverts that will be about 23 Minutes.
