It appears that on June 7 (today), they are starting to air Fifth Gear. The thing that I found interesting was that they had cut the show from an hour (with commercials) down to 30 minutes (with commercials). This means that a lot of the useless crap is cut out, but it also means that some of the segments felt a bit rushed. After watching two episodes, it certainly felt like somewhat of a decent show. On one hand, I didn't like how some of the segments were cut by a considerable amount. On the other hand, they did cut out a lot of the useless stuff that made Fifth Gear a bit of an annoying show. I think if they made the show 45 minutes long with commercials, it would have been a more interesting proposition. Heres the link:

Some inside info on the Discovery Canada airings of FG...
Discovery Programming purchased seasons 9 & 10 for a trial run in the summer... for the next 13 weeks (starting June 7) they'll run to back to back30 minute episodes premiering Saturday afternoon at 5:00pm est and repeating throughout the week. If the ratings are good they will be moving it to a better timeslot - and potentially buying more epis.... If it tanks, you'll only see the 26 x :30 min shows this summer. Also - :30 min episodes (up to Season 11) are all that is offered from the FG distributor for international broadcast... hence a more chopped version of the show. But I agree, It did help the flow, focus more of the vehicles and cut out a lot of twitter. Hope you'll watch again next Sat. |
