Fifth Gear prizes

Where do Fifth Gear get the prize cars from? Do they buy them or are they given to them for commercial reasons? Out of curiosity I kept a list of the prizes from Season 6 to Season 16.

12 Porsches: 5 911s, 5 Boxsters 1 Cayman and a 944
10 VWs: 8 Golfs (5 GTIs), 1 Scirocco and a......Beetle
9 BMWs: 2 M5s, 2 M3s, 2 Z4s, 2 3Series and 1 1Series
7 Minis:
6 Fords: 3 Focuses 1 Fiesta 1 Mustang 1 Capri
6 Hondas: 3 Civics 2 S2000s and an NSX
6 Audis: 5 TTs and an S3
5 Fiats
5 Imprezas
4 Evos
4 Mercedes': 2 SLs, an A and an S-Class
4 Datsuns: 3 350zs and a Skyline
3 Land Rovers
3 Renaults: 2 Clios and a Megane
3 Lotus Elises
2 Jags
2 Mazda MX-5's
2 Vauxhalls: a Monaro and an Astra
2 Alfas
1 Citroen, 1 TVR, 1 Aston DB7, 1 Toyota, 1 Skoda, 1 Suzuki, 1 Volvo, 1 Maserati and even a Ferrari 308.

So that's 41 German, 23 Japanese, 21 British, 9 Italian, 6 American, 4 French, 1 Czech and 1 Swedish car.

No Peugeots and no Seats. Anyway still a lot of free metal that someone must have paid for.

I know when they give away a 'classic' or used car they buy it because they specifically search for perfect examples. The new cars? I don't know, maybe given to them in return for good publicity?

You should see the prize bundle that Five gives away on the Gadget Show!

If calls cost £1.50 or thereabouts, it doesn't take too many people ringing up to make up a big prize pot.
