Default Fifth Gear's attack on Top Gear

Is Fifth Gear's attack on Top gear hurting Fifth?
To me .. Fifth gear is getting more and more annoying in there attacks on Top gear..
and the worst part is that they (this time Tom) use lines from Top gear..

the more Fifth flames Top... the more i love Top

What lines did Tom use?

I noticed the burn about their track being better than some 'airport' tracks. I thought that was funny.

Keep in mind that the TG folks occassionally toss in a zinger about FG. Remember the recent episode where Jeremy said new devices would allow the government to monitor which gear you were in "ah, he's in third gear there and should have been in fifth gear." Then he frowned and said, "not fifth gear, obviously, but top gear." I thought it was hilarious. A little good natured needling never hurt anyone.

remember FG's test of the Range Rover Sport against person on the horse down that hill? his point was that, that test was like something that would be on TG.

IIRC Richard said something along the lines of "it will fill up with water and dump it on your head".

Tom said "It will fill up with leaves and dust AND sometimes water if you aren't quick enough and dump it on your head"

Now this is just what I remember as I can't be stuffed looking for that speech again, so it wasn't identical, it's just what every car reporter will say.

Anyway, even if it was identical, where's the dig at TG?

Remember.....

"imitation is the best form of flattery."

FG is trying to be more like TG in their 1-hr timeslot. Considering the time they had in previous seasons, I prefer them. Their reviews were short and sweet. Now they dont even make sense. Look at the Flying Spur Bentley review..

I dont think they are attacking TG though.. They know TG is the best and they are just trying to be a little more like it.

Don't know if this was intentional, or just me.

But when Tiff was submitting his review of the Porsche 911 on the Fifth Gear website he typed something like:

It is the best car...IN THE WORLD!!!

This reminded me of Clarkson whenever he reviews something.

Like "It's not just a good car...(pause)...IT'S A GREAT CAR!!!

In fact, I think this is something widely used by BOTH of them...and I remember Tiff saying that a lot about Porches, so I saw it as a "self mockery".

I've noticed it too - it seems that this season they're trying too hard to be competitive with TG, and to knock them. Something about the way they say some phrases just sounds off - they can't manage to make it a joke like TG does. I like the new Fifth Gear style - much improved - but I think they're trying too hard to compete with TG. I could care less if they adapt the same style of show - I don't think they'll ever be able to reproduce TG's charisma - but I wish they wouldn't try to compete so much

You guys are overanalying something that doesn't even exist.
You're doing the same thing that little teenage girls do over Hilary Duff and Lindsay Lohan--GOSSIP!

I seriously think that the folks at FG and TG do it as a friendly gesture more than anything.
Jeremy and Tiff still talk regularly about cars. Remember Jeremy mentioning a Lister Storm racecar driver during the Audi S4 discussion?
They both have their differences of opinion, but they are still good friends.

Have you guys ever consider this?
FG began to air WAY before TG (in its current format).
If anything, the current Top Gear would be the one copying Fifth Gear.
The entire crew from the old TG went to Channel Five to make the current FG.
So, FG came before TG. However, TG still has the higher ratings.
Tiff always says "the greatest motoring show in the world." What's wrong with FG trying to be so competitive?

Actually Fifth gear is a copy of TGs old style. Now FG is trying to copy TGs new style so Its fifth gear thats copying. Still I agree theres nothing wrong with FG trying to be more competative but bitching about them when TG can't respond is just lame. images/smilies/thumbdown.gif
