Default Johnny Smith aka Jeremy Clarkson fan ?

Have anyone else noticed that Johnny Smith often are trying to speak in the same way about cars like Jeremy Clarkson do ? It could be that i'm wrong, i just feel he does, any opinions ?

Yeah, I actually have thought that since he started doing reviews. He isn't bad... some of them are over the top though. Plato was better.

Frankly, I think all Brit car presenters sound almost the same. Wild analogies, long sweeping metaphors, and great humor. I only wish American presenters would imitate.

Yeah I do think that he is trying to copy JC's style and descriptions etc..
However I think that he is adding a bit of a James May style to the show..

Let anyone in here do one presentation with a weeks notice and I dare you that 99% have something Clarksonesque in it. Better to have a good (average in his case) Clarkson copy than Vicky

it would be nice, but its not very american to do that, and if american presenters did that on an american show, i think a lot of viewers would find that obnoxious and insulting...partly because they're too dim to appreciate dry subtle wit, and partly because they think they're being made to feel dumb...because said presenters aren't speaking on their level.

I've always thought that Tom was the most May-like of the FG presenters, just a bit younger and a bit hairier.

Started to think same especially after I saw the "612 to Modena" and there's alot of Clarkson in his style, but in a good way. It doesn't look like he's trying to copy JC, he has his own style and humor actually works.

This statement is very insulting to Americans in general, somehow we are more "dim" then others?

I'm American and I will concede that the South is to be blamed for making the rest of us look bad. That's all I'll say about it.

im american too, and you shouldnt say 'we' or feel insulted because my statement is obviously not directed towards you or the other americans who watch FG or TG, because they like and appreciate the british presenting style. but its still true, american presenters trying to sound witty and metaphorical doesnt sound right, like watching breakdancers do ballet.

again if you felt insulted, sorry, youre not included in the ignorant masses.

Im American but I agree whole heartedly that British car reviews are WAY better. They are more descriptive, use a greater vocabulary, and have much (a lot more if you are top gear) humor in them.

I like Johnny Smith. He's a very good youth-orientated presenter with some fresh ideas and views. He's one of my favourite Fifth Gear presenters.

Johnny is a combination of Hammond and May, he's got Hammond's youth perspective, but at the same time he's not really into fast cars like Hammond and is much more into older, quirky cars and classics.

Tom Ford is the older of the two but actually comes across as more immature and really likes the fast cars like any regular guy would.

yea, I wouldn't quite go that far. apparently you've never actually BEEN to the south. what I DO know is that Phil Hill (only american born driver to win the F1 World Championship) is from Florida. and that Lake Speed, the only american to win the world championship in karts (over Ayrton Senna), is from Jackson, MS...which is about 15 minutes from my front door. oh, and Jim Pace is from Ridgeland, MS...about 10 minutes from my house. he's an instructor at Skip Barber, and he's won the 24 Hours of Daytona twice, and the 12 Hours of Sebring twice...and he's raced in the 24 Hours of Le Mans. plus all the other artists that come from the south, I wouldn't quite say that WE make the country look bad, I'd just say it's a lot of the dumb fucking idiots all over the country doing dumb fucking things. and people like you, who arbitrarily blame the south for making the county look bad cause of a stereotype that is most likely a continuation of the division of the north and south post-civil war US, don't help things.
