Default Adam Discusses Top Gear America Not Coming To NBC

Back on Tuesday, a caller called into Adam Carolla's morning radio show and asked about the news that Top Gear wouldn't be coming to NBC. Adam and his sidekicks discussed possible reasons for the change and things like that. Worth a listen.

What the hell? Adam thinks he's' funnier than clarkson!?!

New prediction, with that kind of smugness, Top Gear US will blow.

In it he defines exactly why NBC didn't like it.

"It is exactly like Top Gear but with a Yank accent."

Unlike Top Gear Australia, which was Top Gear adapted for the Australian market, they tried to do the show exactly, with the same likes/dislikes/pointed humor of the UK show.

Take TVR as an example. To Brits TVR is a grand operation and an icon whose faults can be overlooked.. To Americans TVR is a quirky car built in a shed with dodgy quality and driving dynamics.

...you know it really pisses me off that they equated knight rider with top gear. So according to NBC a fictional show about a piece of crap talking car is supposed to have the same fan base as a factual based motoring program...

With that kind of logic its no wonder why American's are seen as fat stupid redneck stereotypes, and it is also no wonder why American cars are going down the shit hole.

I officially don't like Adam now. He is way too smug.

"I am funnier than Jeremy"

The audience should be the judge of that, not the man himself.

there's a reason why NBC is in third place. it's because they have no intelligence.

No, they are behind because they aren't the network that airs America Idol or Dancing with the Stars. images/smilies/rolleyes.gif

Yeah, I dunno why anyone wouldn't think that's true. That doesn't make Clarkson a bad or worse presenter, he just isn't a funny kinda guy. That's not him. Nothing wrong with that though.

i think he is pretty funny..sort of. well, he gets himself into hilarious situations and his rough comparisons of cars to other things are pretty entertaining.

but corollas smugness definitely turns me off of him doing anything else. i cant stand his voice, and his "im funnier" attitude does piss me off a bit.

I personally love British humor, which is one of the reasons I enjoy Top Gear, but on one level I admit to being a bit worried if NBC's plan is to make this a "direct porting" of the UK Top Gear.

A number of BBC shows have "translated" well to American television (just look at part of the prime-time line-up of HGTV and TLC), however those shows were adapted to the US market (as you note TGA was to the Australian market).

I remember Adam from Love Line(?) on MTV and the Man Show. He was amusing on those shows. He is the Abbott to somebody else's Costello.

Clarkson is amusing by himself. Putting him with others just makes him more entertaining. Check out Meets the Neighbors, Motorworld, Speed, and Inventions That Changed the World for examples of Clarkson's solo work.

I second Steve and Kiskaloo, btw.
