I can get it to play but the audio and video are out of sync. The audio is several seconds ahead of the video. Is there some way to fix this?

EDIT: Nevermind, I got it to work right.

i think i will have a stab at stripping the video and audio out of the mkv container.

i was very lucky in that i got in on DivX's giving away of free divx pro/converter keys for the Mac OS X version of their converter software...so i have fully licenced divx pro and converter software

if i can get it out of the mkv, divx should be able to take the video file and the audio and encode them with the divx HD profile.

right well, installed bootcamp, got xp going.... tried this 1080p rip.. no go. same problems, 10 seconds of pixelated grey followed by a period of smooth playback then interrupted by pauses rife with artefacts.

my conclusion is whatever i have downloaded is corrupt in some way. there is no way my computer isnt powerful enough to play it. no way.

You should be able to check if your file is corrupt (and possibly be able to repair it) by following the procedure in this link:
http://www.hackernotcracker.com/2007...ash-scans.html

What player / config did you use in XP?

That is odd. The 1080p version played fine on my Athlon64 running at a mere 2.3ghz (Radeon X800). Make sure you go into the codec settings and TURN OFF DEBLOCKING as it eats up CPU and you don't need it anyway with such high quality source video. Speaking of this, make sure that MPC is actually using the CoreAVC codec, not some other codec that may have already been on your system. I had to uninstall PowerDVD to get MPC to use CoreAVC (not a problem, PowerDVD is crap anyway).

My Dual Core 2.5ghz Power Mac is having trouble playing this file, i didn't think it would! But then again i'm playing it in VLC which is very unreliable on the Mac, i think you can get a MKV player component for Quicktime, i'll see if i can find it somewhere.

For anybody using a Mac (I'm on an iMac dual core) don't use VLC. Download perian which is a plug-in for quicktime. This will make movie play in quicktime, however unlike the divx plug-in it will not work for Front Row. At least for me it doesn't. I have no idea why.

The best way to play video/audio is to get the FFDSHOW package from afterdawn (http://www.afterdawn.com/software/vi...rs/ffdshow.cfm)

This runs faster than anything I've tried and will play using 1/2 the cpu power of most other options out there. It will also handle pretty much any file including this mkv.

Pair it up with VLC (http://www.videolan.org/) and you have everything you'll ever need. Both are free.

As far as the rip, it's pretty good. I'd say 1440x1080 is not quite 1080p but more than we've ever got. It hurt a bit to d/l 7gigs and it's definitely worth it. Some of the shots are pure artwork.

I tried burning a DVD with ConvertXtoDVD and it did a great job but the audio would not play. I have no idea why, the software has never failed me before.

I'll seed as long as I can.

Here's to more episodes in 1080i.

P.S. Running on Intel CoreDuo 6600 2.4gz oc> 3.4gz with 8800gts - avg 40% cpu usage.

VLC won't work, I haven't looked at it much, but I think it only uses internal filters.

What you need is:

Media Player Classic 6.4.9.0: http://www.videohelp.com/tools/Media_Player_Classic
Haali Media Splitter (included in the cccp) : http://www.videohelp.com/tools/Haali_Media_Splitter
CoreAVC: http://www.videohelp.com/tools/CoreAVC (See 1st post in this thread)

Be sure that you disable the internal Matroska filter in MPC:
http://img300.imageshack.us/img300/3279/mpcmatroskack4.gif

In MPC, these output settings work for me, but I'm not sure if this relies on a graphics card with Pixel Shader 2.0 or not:

cheers ESPNSTI, i will try that as soon as i can. bit busy today mind, but i should get some time tomorrow.

i guess VLC doesnt like something about this rip. i already have the haali thingy so i just need MPC and coreAVC

i should be fine with those settings, heck i should really be seeing about how to get my 8600GT to do some of the talking, it should be able to offload nearly all of the decoding.

For people who has Window Media player. I have v11 and Storm Codec. Storm Codec is a combo codec that has everything it claims. And when I run the video

http://i97.photobucket.com/albums/l230/taka_rx8/a80ec673.jpg

This comes up - sorry it is too small isn't it? I just read the earlier post and it is the Haali's render thing.

haha. It is bloody funny episode.

Some information on hardware decoding of AVC in MKV is here: http://forum.doom9.org/showthread.php?t=127376

ok, here are my tips for this, take them if you want them;
1. for those of you who have nvidia video cards and are having trouble, I hate to say it, but while nvidia is pretty good at gaming, their 2d and video playback isn't up to snuff, get an Ati card to play back video
2. for video decoders, I reccomend downloading the cccp codec pack, should have most everything needed to play this back and it does include media player classic.

and before anyone wants to argue about ati vs nvidia, this really isn't the place for it, I design video recording and playback systems that are used in certain government facilities around the world, and I keep wanting to use nvidia products in our stuff, but ati really is the best option for video playback.

awesome quality, I just follow the steps on the first page and it runs perfectly fine on media player classic.
However my VLC didn't work, it just gone all white when I tried to play it.
Thanks again.

Not exactly, 4:3 is 720x576 and DVDs are in 1024x576 which is the 16:9. DVDs are set up with a 16:9 Flag. Most of them are in Cinemascope which is not equal to 16:9 (with an Aspect Ratio of 1,78:1 or 1,85:1), because it's wider and comes with an Aspect Ratio of 2,35:1.

But 1920x1080 (no matter if interlaced or progressive) ist 16:9. Y'all should prefer this before upscaling a 720p Clip.

To play a 1080 Clip without Hardware Acceleration by Graphics, you'll need a ~3Ghz CPU of the older Generations. The Core 2 Duo can do this from about the E6400 and higher. Quicktme HD is worse than other Formats in HD, it eats up a bit more CPU.

ATI Videocards do accelerate all Content in Hardware since the X1600pro came out. Nvidia did only accaelerate WMV HD till the Geforce 7 series... no Clue if the 8 can do more -but it should due to the implementing of the HDCP-Rom.

On the Software side, all you need ist the Quicktime Alternative. Once installed, you can play all important Formats, even DVD with DTS Sound. QTalt comes with the Mediaplayer Classic, this takes less Resources than most of the other Software Players (except Winamp, but WA is NOT intended for watching Videos). With MPclassic you don't need AC3filter etc. But you can switch between your preferred Filters though.

I think I'm saying anamorphic for the third time in this thread... Pixels don't have to be square... Cinemascope is usually kind of a letterboxed anamorphic 16:9...

Anybody know how to capture a tv program like this in HD.

What kind of hardware is used ?

A HDTV tv capture card ? What brand and/or model ?

How do you receive a 1080p signal ? Do you need a external HD terminal as well?

I have a hard time playing the file, i see still image every 1-2 sec.
I know my computer can handle it (AMD athlon x2 4600+, 4go ram, GeForce 8800GTS 640mb), i'ts probably some codec issues. I use VLC anybody know how to install new codec in vlc ?

In the UK a DVB-S2 card, in the US and Canada pretty much any OTA device for a lot less money, if you live in a region that has HD OTA... Its gonna be 720p or 1080i, though... You could also go for a Sattelite TV subsription, afaik...
