Server Troubles... Fixed?
You guys sure love your Top Gear, don't you? We managed to break our server today due to the metric assload of traffic (we broke all of our old traffic records, even with the downtime), but PacketCollision and Quiky managed to sort it all out, we hope.

I was VERY impressed with the downtime personally. This must be one heck of an episode to generate that much traffic. Can't wait to watch.

We are working on some major tuning.. it seems that Apache just can't handle 5000+ concurrent users... We never expected those levels of traffic on the site-- as last season was about half that. Nginx is almost ready for use, along with some new front-page caching.

Why do you put so much work in it? Personally for u guys who do it as a hobby it's acceptable if there are some problems for a few hours after an new series starts. I couldn't reach this site too... but after a few hours it worked again.
I know a site where you can buy concert tickets (massive events... like up to 100.000 people) and their server always brakes down when some specific Event's presale starts... i do not understand and accept this for a professional business... but for you guys.. just relax and thx for the good basis you're offering us here
