Default New York City Meetup

Would anyone in the NYC metro-area be interested in a meetup in the coming months, probably before the end of the year?

Or am I out of line even suggesting this?

images/smilies/tongue.gif j/k of course. No, it's a great idea. Hell, all meets are setup by volunteers from the forums and they grow from there. images/smilies/smile.gif

Best of luck, what we learnt from our meetup was that you need someone very dedicated and willing to plan it to the nth degree (flyingfridge in our case) are you planning to do a cruise or just meetup?

It's NYC i am sure there are some form of auto related museums inside the city. If nothing else MOMA does have that ferrari F1 motor on display.

I can most likely make it if I'm not spending too much time working on my bike*. I'd like to do a cruise northwest of the city like the Melbourne meetup, if anybody from there knows of any good roads.

I was looking at that, or if we miss the exhibit, we could rent out a cybercafe and have a race sim night. Unfortunately, NYC is one of the least car-friendly cities.

Boston is a 4 1/2 - 5 hour drive on a good day. I don't see it being all that worth it, even though that does sound intriguing.

NYC to Boston == 3.5 hours i have done it about 50 times

if you guys are really amped about F1 Boston we could just move the meet to boston area. i would say that i highly doubt that NYC doesn't have an F1 Boston type racing complex.

Im definitely up for a Boston F1 meetup. Does this merit a new thread? cuz there'd be quite a bit of planning and $$ to start up our own team i assume. I'll look into it though

I know some great roads we could take, as I've been involved in and organized a lot of runs in the area (see sig).

But I would really wait for warmer weather. You really need at least 6 weeks notice before a date, and that puts us in winter. And that would not be fun.

A few of us are planning to meet in and around New York City for a Finalgear meet, much like the Melbourne meet, and I'm looking for some good driving roads that can prove that America isn't full of fat, stupid people going in a straight line. Could you share us some of these roads near the City? I know CT has some amazing roads, but I'm not sure yet if the members are willing to drive that far through shitty traffic. Then again, if they're willing to go up to Boston...

What are the ones you love to unwind your Vette on?
Well, as someone that has organized a lot of runs, I would first suggest that you wait until next Spring when the weather is better. You'll get a much better turnout. Speaking for myself, all I'll have this winter is my Pathfinder as I'm selling my Vette. images/smilies/lol.gif I'll have a Lotus Elise in the spring through. images/smilies/wink.gif

The problem about winter is 1. the unpredictability of snow, 2. road salt, 3. cold in general being shitty for traction 4. no one wants to stand around and chat in the cold. It's certainly not a good time to enjoy good driving roads. You need a good 6 weeks before you set a date for it to materialize, and that puts us in December.

Now, we've done some runs in various spots in NY and CT. In NY, the closest decent run to NYC is Bear Mountain. That's OK, if not a little short.

A Catskills run would be good, but that's a bit of a drive.

I put together two CT runs that are close to NYC. I also participated in a Lotus club (30+ Elise's/Exige's!) run that used similar runs, and many participants were from in/around the city. On my meets, more NY plates than CT, coming as far as mid-Long Island.

Anyway, we meet in Westport, and drive up through some of the best roads in the region: namely around the Saugatuck reservoir in Redding. The Lotus group had lunch at the Redding Roadhouse, which is a great restaurant. However, if you do this route to the Redding Roadhouse straight from the Westport meeting spot (Lotus met in Greenwich), it's only a 20 minute drive. images/smilies/wink.gif

The Corvette group took it all the way to northern CT. All the roads are fantastic. But there are plenty of spots to turn around. One ideal one would be Roxbury. A Westport > Roxbury run would probably be about an hour to an hour and a half.

Anyway, if you want more info, I'd be happy to put a route together. Let me know what time of year though, as I wouldn't be able to participate in the winter.
He's right, anybody from NE and NY would know how hellish our winters are, and how much we wouldn't want to hurt our cars. I'm thinking of a weekend in maybe March when all the snow clears and we can drive down to CT, where some great rural roads are to be found. It's too early to plan now, but I'd love to get this started soon enough. images/smilies/biggrin.gif

Yeah, Westport is only ~35 miles from NYC city limits.

We could even start in Greenwich or New Canaan, which is even closer.

Bear Mountain, again, is a nearby option, but you get a lot of Sunday drivers on the weekend. images/smilies/blink.gif

The run the Lotus guys took me on was absolutely epic for twisties. And man can those cars kill in the corners. Unbelievable.

These CT routes are cool too since you can hug the coast and see nice views of the sound, and do some mansion gawking too.

Here's another kart place: http://www.ontrackkarting.com/

A little closer to NYC. I don't know of any others.

I was thinking of going there to stave off the winter driving blues.

Why don't we go meetup at the NY autoshow(usually in april) drive to a karting place, have a few races, and drive somewhere and maybe take a different path back to NY and everyone just chats at a diner or somethin then we leave.

Lets get some maps of some routes! GOOGLE Earth
