Default The Melbourne Meetup Thread - 14th of October > Yarra Valley and the Spurs

http://www.phyrefile.com/pic/2007/09/18/finalmeet.jpg

Here it is, the official Melbourne Meetup and Cruise RSVP and organisation thread. Post here your attendance, what suburb you expect to be leaving from, if you're a driver post if you have spare seats and if you don't drive and want to come along for the ride we'll organise you a seat.

This is the route for the cruise: Google Maps

We'll be meeting at LaTrobe University at 10:00am. We'll then make our way up through Peter Brock's hometown of Hurstbridge and up the extraordinarily twisty Heidelberg-Kinglake Road over Mt Beggary. Our first major stop will be in Kinglake for a morning coffee and chat. Then we continue east to Toolangi and then south along the superb Chum Creek Road to Healesville. From Healesville, we'll go up the Maroondah Highway, an excellent stretch of road you might have heard of, it's called Black Spur drive. At the top of Black Spur drive is our lunch stop, the Black Spur Inn. From the Inn, we continue to Marysville and down Reefton Spur via Reefton to Warburton. Then up Don Rd back to Healesville. The final leg of the day is a relaxed cruise back to civilisation across the Yarra Valley.

What to bring: Full tank of juice, 2-way radio, camera, some money for a counter lunch.

The day is a very relaxed day and you should be back in Melbourne mid to late afternoon depending on how many impromptu stops are made along the way. It's a great day to enjoy some scenery, superb tarmac and have an enjoyable day meeting each other while enjoying that thing that brings us together: our cars.

Look forward to seeing you there!

NEW: Due to the excellent response we've had so far, I'll be making a booking with the Black Spur Inn for lunch. If you're confirmed for the cruise please PM me how many people will be coming in your car so I can get a good idea of how many to book for. If you're as yet unconfirmed, please confirm with numbers before Thursday the 11th!

I'm in - leaving from Western suburbs, I'll have 1 seat spare (since I'm travelling through the city I can pick up someone along the way).

I should be free, i'll confirm in a weeks time.

People needing a ride, there is realistically space for 1 but more can fit if needed

I'm def in... I'm leaving from the city and will take Sydney Rd/Lygon St to Latrobe via. Bell St and Plenty Road, so if anyone who is on the way that wants to come, just post here images/smilies/biggrin.gif. Most likely I will have 3 seats, but I would prefer to not take you guys through the spur, esp the reefton because I just did a run last week and my fender rub is quite bad when there are bumps on the road... so if I pick anyone up, maybe you guys can ride with someone else through the twisties, Sorry).

This does sound like a nice little drive, and as I live in Healesville I should be able to come along provided work doesnt get in the way.

woohoo... turn out looks promising in this meet images/smilies/biggrin.gif, guys who are thinking about coming, its a great drive... recently did it last weekend with a car club and they had people coming from Sydney and Adelaide to join the cruise as the drive is simply fun... I'm so glad people picked this over the GOR images/smilies/biggrin.gif. I spoke to the guys who just took a leisurley cruise and even they enjoyed it... you don't need a powerful/fast car to enjoy it, I think its going to be a slow leisurely cruise so you'll even have fun in a Hyundai Excel (sounds quite ironic that we are having a slow cruise despite a lead car being a wrx images/smilies/tongue.gif).

and Welcome to the new members... can't wait to meet you guys, and the oldies ofcourse images/smilies/biggrin.gif

I took the BA Fairmont Ghia up there last weekend. Not a particularly sporty drive but the roads were still good fun! Damn 4 speed auto..... images/smilies/wallbash.gif

But it all helps... he he he (okay the MR2's not exactly fast in a straight line, but it does love a twisty piece of tarmac).

This may be fun, my Soarer is the exact opposite to that. Ill still do my best in the twisties even if that means chewing a little rubber.

an MR2 would be an awesome drive around that road images/smilies/tongue.gif... I was so jealous of the bunch of CRX's on the twisties, and I was so clumsy in my big civic images/smilies/lol.gif

I'll be there with my Liberty B4. 14 October seems to be free for now.

I'll be travelling from Sunshine and will probably have 2 seats free (for now)
