A new machine is most likely going to be my first big purchase once I get settled in my new home working for the air force. Most likely that will happen in the spring so I should be able to pick up a fast machine for not much dough. images/smilies/smile.gif I always feel bad about spending hundreds of dollars on a computer but this one has served me well for almost three years now. But it's definitely time for an upgrade because lots of flash-heavy websites torture this poor old Acer.

Awesome.

Thanks to everyone who's turning the folding back on or starting for the first time images/smilies/biggrin.gif

Also as an FYI, we just crossed 2 million points as a team.

Now we just need to get back into the top 500.

Gonna talk to Quiky and see if we can fold on Jaguar (which has a pair of idle CPUs most of the time) and maybe even Titan (this quad dual core beast) for a bit (maybe throw a CPU or two at it).

Hey ... errrrr .... kinda stoopid question ahead ...

I just started to run f@h on my PS3. I did join our team (42134) and put in my name as "theInterceptor". Is there any way to make sure my score actually goes into the team score, and that I did actually join the right team?

At the rate we're going now, it looks like to get to #500 it'll be about 8 months (Dependent upon teams between here and there staying at the same general rate, vs. our increased rate).

Decided to join you guys after last folding in 2006, looking to pass Mischief007 again images/smilies/tongue.gif. Running DEINO SMP on my E6600, would do a GPU too, but it doesn't support X1000 cards.

Questions for you all though:

1. FaHMon says i'm churning 600PPD, good or bad? I can only fold during the day, especially when I'm at school, since my computer is in my room with me, and my X1800 is too loud to leave the computer on. So that's about 8-10 hours. Would that really be 1440-1800PPD if 24x7?

2. If the 600PPD is accurate on a current WU # 2665 with credit of 1920 points and I missed the deadline last time with it after 6 days, and about to miss the deadline again (maybe), should I configure it to get small instead of normal WU sizes?

3. I've read some of the forum posts on the folding website, and some say that single core clients are faster than the SMB client. Should I run two single core clients?

I think that's calculated for the day, so if you can only run it half the day, you would only get 300 ppd.

I would go with the smaller ones, if you can't finish the larger ones by their deadlines

The SMP client from FAH works well, but only on X64 quad core boxes (of which I only have one). My other quad core I'm running with 4 single core clients. They turn out the points at about the same rate (depending on the calculations they're actually doing).

@Viper007Bond
Awesome on the servers, that will be a great benefit. I've been running my server with it (granted only half of the available cores), and it works well (plus Datacenters don't make you pay for exact power usage, so it's all good images/smilies/biggrin.gif)

Yeah, we're running it on only 1 of Jag's 2 processors. It's also running on Quiky's backup server at his house that syncs to FinalGear in the event that the colo ever burns down, etc. (i.e. live backup).

It'd be interesting to run 8 copies of it at once here on Titan. LMAO

That seems really low compared to what you guys are churning out.

Yeah, I'll try that with two single core clients, though they seem to be having trouble getting a work assignment.

The SMP worked just fine on my machine, never had any crash or even a hiccup, just seemed slow, especially if I would miss the deadline.

EDIT:
Made the deadline last night, moved up a few places images/smilies/thumbup.gif. It seems that if I actually leave my computer on 24x7 like they want, my PPD goes up. I left the computer on to make the deadline, and FahMon spat this out:
Code:
 Min. Time / Frame : 27mn 00s - 1024.00 ppd
 Avg. Time / Frame : 37mn 39s - 734.34 ppd
 Cur. Time / Frame : 29mn 28s - 938.28 ppd
 R3F. Time / Frame : 29mn 28s - 938.28 ppd
 Eff. Time / Frame : 29mn 45s - 929.34 ppd

Just added my Q6600@3.4ghz to fold with the SMP client, but I don't want to kill my new hardware I'm only set it to fold at 50% load.

Edit: couldn't get it to work correctly, oh well, it's still folding on one of the cores at 50%

Just know that the SMP work units have much tighter deadlines. I missed one because I didn't leave it on long enough. You may benefit from running four separate single core console clients, like my two for my dual core. They have looser deadlines on them. Get FahMon to keep track of the multiple clients, good program.

You get more PPD with the SMP clients though. I'm still evaluating with to use, one SMP or two singles.

Thanks for the tip. I'm just going to run 1 regular client on my main comp and 1 on my media server comp for now.

SMP? Who? What?

I'm running the GPU client basically 24/7 (I pause to game) with the over-10MB-WU box checked.
