Default Making use of Hyperthreading / 2 processors

Here we go. Let me know if I left anything out or if you have any questions by replying to this thread.
  • Download the console client and save it somewhere: http://www.stanford.edu/group/pandeg...02-Console.exe
  • Make two folders somewhere. I made them in C:\Program Files\ and named them Fahconsole1 and Fahconsole2. Place a copy of the EXE in each folder.
  • Start -> Run -> cmd -> cd\program files\fahconsole1 (or wherever you put the EXEs) -> FAH502-Console -config (don't forget the -config tag!!!)

(For these options, just pressing enter will leave the value that's in the brackets)[list:03cbac0f11]
  • Set your username
  • Set team number to "42134"
  • Launch automatically at machine startup, installing this as a server? Type "yes"
  • Leave "ask before fetching/sending work" at no
  • Uh, no idea about IE settings. I guess you can leave this at default.
  • Pick no proxy unless you need one
  • If you have lots of RAM, pick yes for allowing large work assignments. However, I've seen my clients use over 100 MB of RAM EACH when they are working on a large assignments, so again, only do this if you have lots of RAM. The advantage of allowing this is that you'll get a lot more points in the long run.
  • YES, you need to change any advanced options:[list:03cbac0f11]
  • Leave the core priority at idle ("idle" is a lower priority than "low")
  • Yeah, you wanna use 100% of the CPU (don't worry, since it has a "idle" priority, all other programs will get priority on CPU usage
  • I have no idea what highly optomized assembly code is, so leave it on like it suggests
  • If you're on a laptop, you'll probably want to pause when on battery power so that you get a much longer battery life
  • 15 minutes between checkpoints will do
  • Leave the deadline option at it's default
  • Leave ignoring deadlines alone too
  • Machine ID, the all important setting so that both clients don't work on the same work unit. Set this to 1 for this copy of the EXE and set it to 2 on the other EXE.
[/list:u:03cbac0f11][*]Close window[*]Repeat process for other EXE and don't forget to set the machine ID to a different number![*]Reboot and hit control + alt + delete. Click the "Processes" tab and then the "CPU" header twice. You should see two copies of "FahCore_XX.exe" there at the top using 40-50% of of your CPU.[/list:u:03cbac0f11]
All done! images/smilies/smile.gif

... I ask Herb Helbig, vehicle synthesis manager for SRT and a member of the original Team Viper development group since day one, if they'd ever thought of adding traction control. "It comes with two," he says, pointing at my feet. "Learn to use them." Got it.

Folding@Home forbid the use of dual processors as it screws up the workloads - but most people who can, still do

I found a guide like that pretty much right on their site (I thought)...

It's bad to use 2 threads in F@H in HT, but it's good in a REAL dual core.
