Exactly, also don't worry to much about ruining anything like etching on classes, a few exeptions exluded (karmeliet comes to mind) beerglasses from larger breweries tend to be very durabel and well made, remember they have to whitstand constant rinsing/fill/rins/fill in bars.... just stay away from harsh brushes and anything that scratches.

What is so bad about that? Because it's abrasive or it ruins the pallet or? I'm talking about a very tiny amount and only because it was a brand new glass that was shipped across the country.

EDIT: Just to specify, it was dish washing liquid if that makes a difference and it was a very small amount since the glass had a strong odor and I don't see any soap residue at all.

It's bad because it ruins the surface tension of any fluid it comes into contact with. Forget nice foamy heads on your beer, be prepared for flaccid stuff that disappears in a few minutes.

I see...I guess I'll see when I grab some Duvel then. I only used a very small amount and it wasn't directly poured or scrubbed into the glass. Just used a sponge and let a little bit of suds squeeze into the glass while rinsing it so I don't think much harm was done.

Since I've been reading, reducing of the head can be caused by films left by petroleum based cleaners but only when you actually get the soap scrubbed in there.

I got a set of these a few weeks back

Not much difference from a normal pint glass, but I still use them.

dunno about the whole washing of glasses thing, but AFAIK you can just plop it in the dishwasher and it won't fade... unless after a couple of years and daily use perhaps...

Gold-leaf printing found on many many beerglasses doesn't like diswashers much. Also, the diswasher's process corrodes the glass, ruining the clean, smooth finish, which results in too violent foaming, giving you uneven heads, which also disappear too fast and makes your beer go stale faster.

Holy shit, I had no idea cleaning stuff ruined beer. Good thing I drink cheap beer out of cans because Im a poor student, and my rare classy beer comes from bottles. I do have some Stella Artois glasses knocking about after I was given them by a Ebertfest afterparty caterer. I hung around and she was like have some free glasses, and free wine, and free food. It was awesome.

The solution then is to drink it faster.

Only if you smash it on the ground upon finishing your drink.

So I was reading Wikipedia today, and apparently there is a theory dating back to the 19th century that Manna was a thick, oatmeal-like beer. I like to think this is true, and if it is it would sure make the old statement ring true. . .

"Beer is living proof that God loves us and wants us to be happy."

The rinsing part is crucial in getting a good head on your beer. The water fills most of the scratches in your glass, making the inside smoother, making the head more even. Carbon dioxide in drinks nucleates in scratches and other imperfections. The less there are, the smoother the head is.
