I once saw a picture of a latte (or some italian coffee) in some cafeteira in Maranello. It had a prancing horse pattern poured to it.
I couldn't find that photo from the internet though. |

I'm not much of a coffee drinker, but I still want it. Not sure if my math is correct, but I think each cup works out to about $1. Is that a lot?

^ There's a few niggles with the Dolce Gusto system. It only makes 1 cup at a time, you're limited to the kinds of coffee Nescafe offers you (a few with bovine lactate and 1 option without it) and most importantly, the milk in the latte cups is still powdered milk, ie non-dairy creamer, which gives you a lot worse result than using actual milk and generally needs weird add-ons to get the "milk" to froth. The coffee itself is no bad, in all reviews it at least beats the stuff from regular senseo pads. But it's not the way to go if you want proper coffee. I'd take one of those Nespresso machines with milk tank over the Dolce Gusto any day.

A proper espresso machine that takes beans. But sadly, those are 3-4 times as much as a halfway decent Nespresso machine, and thanks to Nespresso, normal piston espresso machines on a budget are virtually non-existent in most retail channels

The next time you're in Delft, you really have to pay a visit to the Coffee Company, their coffee is just delicious! I always go there before work to get me a large vanilla cappuccino.

My journeys to Delft take me long enough as is sadly. A typical working day in Delft sees me out of the house for 12-13 hours. Not fun. And that's just the journey + work itself.

One of my friends recently returned with some Indonesian coffee beans from an overseas trip. I can't remember the exact blend, but its fabulous; Slightly less dry, and more subtle in flavor than the "hit-in-the-face" stuff I usually have.

That's the instant stuff right?
I was camping a couple weeks ago and my friend brought some cause he doesn't like the man coffee I make in a pot. Tasted like shitty, instant coffee to me. And I think my man coffee had less grit to it.

I love coffee, I hate pretension masquerading as a beverage.

My favourite is an Arabica bean called Maragogype from Nicaragua. Second favourite is a Kenya Arabica (highest selection quality AA Plus).
The problem is: You will not get single bean coffees in normal shops. Even when they write on their pack that they are from one sort only, it only means they are either Arabica or Robusta (which in fact are the only two existing sorts of coffee). But of course the beans differ in size and taste from region to region. So if you buy a pack of Arabica, it doesn't mean it's just one sort of beans, it's rather just stating the obvious, because Arabica and Robusta are, as far as I know, only blended for some Espresso sorts. So when you read "100 % Arabica" on a coffee package, it still is probably a blend of up to 20 different Arabica beans from all over the world. Also the big coffee roasters rarely use the highest selection quality ("AA Plus" or the likes) for their blends and roast their coffees too hot and too fast to save time and money. 20 minutes at 200° C under careful observation is normal. In the big coffee "factories" they go up to 400° C (!) and down to a few minutes, which in most cases simply leaves you more or less consuming just carbon and not coffee, and is responsible for the sour taste of many coffees. Basically the normal coffee consumer, who buys his coffee in supermarkets or even stores from well-known coffee roasters, is being messed around with beyond belief. Three more facts about coffee you might wanna know: 1. If you are a healthy person and get stomach problems from coffee, it is because the coffee is shit. No exception, no further discussion needed. Good coffee simply doesn't give you any problems at all. 2. Milk in coffee delays the effect of caffeine for several hours. That's why many people have trouble sleeping after drinking coffee in the evening. 3. Coffee beans have to look matte after roasting. Because if they look shiny or glossy, it means all the ethereal oils have left the beans already due to too hot and/or long roasting, and what's left is just carbon.
