Of course, the closest location for your friend in Maine is, unfortunately, in Nashua NH. That's what he gets for not living in a real state.
Wait...unfortunately as in far away from Maine or unfortunately because he would have to go to Nashua. I don't want to find out you are making fun of my birth city now.

There are no In-N-Out restaurants back East. Could it be considered a form of punishment to expose someone to a food they'll never be able to get back home?

We've been friends for 30 years, and I don't want this to end it.
I'm gonna be honest: In-N-Out is not *that* special. It's very good for the price, but it's no better than, say, Nation's.

I've got to agree. In-N-Out is good, but here are a few I like better.

Culver's Frozen Custard and Butter Burgers FTW.

I don't really care so much for In-N-Out. I live less than 2 miles from one and I can probably count the times I've been there on one hand in the last 3 years.

Their burger is best described as a Big Mac, made right. However...they don't offer bacon on anything. Fail.

Also..I'm sorry, but their fries suck. Too real. They are very fresh and natural, however they somehow taste worse than homemade fries. If you eat the fries right at the counter when you pick them up they are passable, but by the time you get to your table, they taste like...not much.

Speaking of good chain burgers, I just love MOSburger. I fell in love with them in Japan, and I make it my duty to buy some everytime I'm down the bottom of Takashimaya in Singapore as well.

There's something about the sauce which they put in them.

Christ I want some now.

I don't buy the 1 euro per 5 litre jug brand, I only get Hellmanns or Tommy. It's ok in small ammounts, like olives, but a spoonful...

Brains are nice. A major regional speciality where I live is made of calf's brains. It is le yummy. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Hoofdkaas

Another one is made of blood and other leftover bits. It's also made of pure awesome. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Balkenbrij

And this is the Dutch favrourite, made of all leftover bits of mead that can be eaten, mixed with herbs and spices and then deep-fried. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Frikandel

Good old southern cheese grits casserole. There may be something more heavenly in this world, but I've not come across it. There's gouda, cheddar, and ricotta in the center and parmesean on top for crunch. An egg gives it the perfect poof during baking, and there's plenty of pepper for extra yum. I could eat this every day. I think it's taken the favorite food spot away from homemade mac and cheese casserole. It's a meal in itself. The best part is after the leftovers set up in the fridge, you slice them into patties and toast them up in a skillet. Second best thing in the world.

I, as a southern-born-and-bred individual, have never liked grits. However, I must try that.

Check it out! I just take the same amount of cheese called for and split it between 2 or 3 types (the ricotta is optional, gives creaminess but not so much cheesiness). I actually do that with most recipes that call for cheddar only. I don't like the way cheddar cooks. It's a sandwich cheese!

People who don't like grits have never had them made the right way. I would bet you'd like these. They're divine. I don't believe grits should really be served straight up. They need bacon or cheese or scrambled egg mixed in (or all of the above) unless you're a big fan of carbs.

Holy crap, I want some of those grits! Yum.

Grits + cheese = only way to have 'em.

It's almost 5 AM in Texas, therefore, I made a Whataburger run. Sausage, egg and cheese taquito, a Justaburger (add cheese, grilled onions and mayo), and a coke the size of a kiddie pool. Mmmmm.
