Default 2010 F1 calendar announced

FIA announces 19-race 2010 calendar

By Pablo Elizalde Monday, September 21st 2009, 13:50 GMT

The FIA's World Motor Sport Council has announced a 19-race calendar for the 2010 season, confirming the return of Canada.

The governing body also confirmed South Korea will make its debut in Formula 1 next year with an October date.

Next year's championship will begin in Bahrain, as reported earlier this year by AUTOSPORT, with Australia moving to second place on the calendar.

Canada, absent from this year's calendar, will return on a June date subject to the completion of contract talks with FOM.

Brazil will close the season on 14 November.

14/3 Bahrain
28/3 Australia
04/4 Malaysia
18/4 China
09/5 Spain
23/5 Monaco
30/5 Turkey
13/6 Canada*
27/6 Europe (Valencia)
11/7 Great Britain
25/7 Germany
01/8 Hungary
29/8 Belgium
12/9 Italy
26/9 Singapore
03/10 Japan
17/10 Korea
31/10 Abu Dhabi
14/11 Brazil

* Subject to the completion of contract negotiations with Formula One Management. If these are not completed then the Turkish Grand Prix will be moved to 6 June.

Note: The race in Australia will start at 1700 local time, in Malaysia at 1600 local time, in Singapore at 2000 local time, and in Abu Dhabi at 1700 local time.
So Canada is not yet 100% confirmed, but ought to be as soon as possible. France is again off the calendar, Brazil is back to the season-closing slot, Bahrain moves to its 2006 position, and the only new addition is Korea.

Only question remaining would be "where will the British GP take place?" Right now it might be too late for Silverstone to step in if Donington will, predictably, fail to meet its deadlines.

What track is the Korean GP happening at? It's nice to see a new one without losing one, but I just hope the track doesn't suck.

Of course, that shortcut from T3 to T12 is used to create three possible layouts of three lengths. It won't be used in the F1 race.

But oh no..Valencia still haunts us with endless boredom..

Hahaha when I first saw that track layout my eyes went straight from T3 to T12 in a clockwise direction, and then I ended up at T4 and back to T3 and I thought "wait a minute, that's not right"

If you do, don't forget to give us a write-up as to how it's like. I'm thinking to volunteer as a marshal for a race in the next few years, I don't know how to do that though (get an application in).

I think you can try contacting the organisers of the race? Let them know you're interested and they could point you in the right direction.

That track has too many awkward corners, I think it will be hard to overtake there...typical Tilke track.

Also, yay Brazil is back for the season closer and hopefully Canada becomes official (although I know it's confirmed)

While the track layout looks terrible, I think going to Korea makes sense since they have a fairly robust auto industry.

And if we're lucky, Kim Jong Il will decide that he wants to be the most powerful dwarf in the world and take Bernie out that weekend.

Yay, twilight race, so we can all be blinded by the afternoon sun. :\

eta: When the race starts at 5pm, it starts off like this:

And ends up like this:

The sun does get quite low and on the main straight the drivers are facing straight into the sun, then turns one and two are in deep shadow. It must be quite dangerous for them. Can't really understand why you'd purposely subject everyone to such dangerous lighting conditiouns.

Will the German GP be at Nurburgring or Hockenheim?
