Default Almost 2 months late, but...

Has anyone been in the grandstands at the Hungarian Grand Prix? The thing about the place is that it's really good to watch the cars from the grandstand (especially for a GP first-timer like me), but I can bet that, on TV, it was a snore-fest. I was on the top row of the pitlane grandstand, facing the Spyker garages (had to use absolutely full zoom to get images of the Renault guys at the other end of the pitlaneimages/smilies/sad.gifimages/smilies/sad.gifimages/smilies/sad.gif... especially sad since I'm a fan of them). The sound effects of the covered grandstand are incredible.

Hey, I know this is a REALLY late reply, but I just saw this topic images/smilies/biggrin.gif

I've been to the Hungarian Grand Prix three times, 2005, 06, and 07. I bought a standing ticket (so not to the grandstands) each year because it's way cheaper and if you are lucky and know where to go, you can watch it from a place as good as the grandstands images/smilies/biggrin.gif

Anyway, I love going to the Hungaroring, even if the track is rubbish. In 2006 the race was awesome too, and I was standing by some crazy British Honda fans images/smilies/biggrin.gif

But it's always a great experience and Hungary is very very lucky to have an F1 race, although I guess F1 fans from all over the world would be happy if it was removed from the calendar images/smilies/tongue.gif

So it's become sort of a pilgrimage for you... However, when I've got enough money to throw on a F1 race trip(again), I'll be going somewhere else. To try a different atmosphere.
(And because I ran on the track to see the podium, being one of the first people to dash there, and also being "captured" in an official photo on Formula1.com there, I left the track a bit too late and was stuck in a traffic jam for 3 hours all the way up to Budapest.)

Yeah, I'd also like to go anywhere else in the future, but of course Hungaroring is the cheapest/easiest way for me images/smilies/smile.gif

I also ran to the podium, and almost got killed to death (too many people images/smilies/biggrin.gif). Oh, and in 2006, a BMW mechanic started throwing BMW caps into the crowd and I managed to catch one as I was standing right under him.

Anyway, how did you like Budapest, Hungary and so? images/smilies/smile.gif

I didn't have enough time to visit Budapest. We arrived on Wednesday and barely got settled in over one day, before I had 4 days of staying almost all day at the circuit from 9 AM to 5-6 PM. And we left back for Romania on Monday morning after the race. Liked the roads... they're much better maintained than most of the incompetently repaired ones that we have hereimages/smilies/sad.gif.
I should have seen the Bulls vs. Lions event in Budapest on Thursday, but unfortunately we had no idea where it was taking place, AND we had a puncture on our family car.

(If you managed to catch a glimpse of a tall man/teenager in a Renault T-shirt with a Renault cap and with a camera in his hand on the track during the podium, that was me)

Sure, there's no time for sightseeing during an F1 weekend indeed images/smilies/smile.gif I also spent 4 nearly whole days at the circuit and got back to Budapest at night (oh yeah, those traffic jams, especially after the race... )

I may have seen you, who knows? images/smilies/biggrin.gif I'm going to take a look at my podium pics images/smilies/tongue.gif

Congrats images/smilies/biggrin.gif I discovered myself on a photo on Red Bull's site, taken in Budapest on Thursday when they put on a show with F1 cars on the bridge above the Danube

Nice discussion here images/smilies/smile.gif

I was in Hungary for 3 days last year, but my schedule was so packed that there were no time to visit Hungaroring images/smilies/sad.gif
I am jealous, I would like to experience the F1 atmosphere, maybe this year, I hope images/smilies/smile.gif

I went to the F1 last year. Flew in to Melbourne that morning, was at the circuit by 8am. Flew home again after the race was home by 6pm haha Crazy day!

But rocking up at the circuit that morning, being AT Albert Park was just a blowout. I didn't realise I was standing next to the circuit until the AMG's came past.....its SO tiny.

I'm half inclined to do something like that this year...

maateuszz89, the stands at the Hungaroring are packed with Polish fans, especially last year, but even in 2006 when it turned out just a few days before the weekend that Kubica was going to race. images/smilies/smile.gif
So I think it can be a great experience for a Polish fan to visit Hungaroring images/smilies/smile.gif

I'm glad you liked Hungary - I was in Poland for a week last summer, Krakow, Zakopane and some places in the near, and it was sooo beautiful images/smilies/smile.gif

There was a BMW flag about 20 meters to my right in the grandstand, but there was a sea of red underneath me, and all of them were honking their horns and cheering every time the man now with number 1 was passing by. (Raikkonen, of course) There was a Polish family, from what I could tell, just a row underneath where I was sitting.

First thing I heard when I arrived at the Hungaroring for the Thursday pitwalk were the AMGs. The engine thunder and the tire squeal around T1, as probably mr. Maylander was doing his warm-up and reconnaisance laps, just in case he would be needed (and he was needed for the Saturday GP2 race). Then, on Friday... first thing, howling DFV Cosworths from the Historic races.

The Hungarian Grand Prix is also know as the Polish/Finnish Grand Prix, and they are super smart cos they get a "home" grand prix without the fees images/smilies/biggrin.gif
