Forza3 is a whole different animal from Shift. Just downloaded the demo.. all i can say is...WOW...


Have you guys tried the time trials? instead of pressing A to start the race, go to the leader boards (press Y) and then press A. That way, you have unlimited laps to run.

Here are my initial results after 5-9 laps in each car.

Porsche 911 GT3-RSR 1:01:415
Audi R10 1:06:891
Ferrari California 1:09:795
Mistubishi EVO X 1:13:316

AIDS:
autobrake off
ABS off
TCS off
SC off
manual (auto clutch)
no rewind

still trying to get the line on the first huge sweeping left hander. any tips guys?

I got 1:16:146 with the mini...and people are getting 1:11:883 with that car...WOW...

Also...that car is amazingly fun, I want one as you really can just throw it into corners.

So, are they going to come out with a new Xbox wheel with a clutch? The whole clutch thing is pointless if you hold a button and then shift.


On another note...
The Forza 3 demo is excellent. This has suddenly become a must have game for me instead of a sort-of-want.

Hug the inside white line, don't trail brake, don't force the car into slip angle. You need to get good acceleration drive all the way through. BTW you mean right-hander correct? lol

it's a left hander... turn 5 i think... the one after the series of S'es. the very long corner..

Thanks for the tip will try that out... i use a different line than the suggested line in the game. I use an exit oriented line which uses 2 apexes, an early one upon turn in, then i let the car understeer outwards before trailbraking then clipping the second single apex, already on full power...

For the hairpin, I go in LONG and deep and hit a very late apex and power up the hill.

Got me a top 1% time

I'd say power. The 360 never was a huge power machine, and is getting old, you can't have it all. FM takes a lot of cpu power with the tire physics alone.

Also, I see a difference in philosophy between FM and Shift. FM3 is more focused on the car handling through physics like all the old school racers were. Shift just tries make everything cool with lots of stuff going on.

I personally like the FM3 approach more, but then I am a boring PC simulator snob who can't handle change.

Well I didn't mean to say its entirely feasible at the moment, but even given the capability I doubt many developers would do it. I like the FM3 physics engine but there are quite a few things I would change. Make the cars move around a bit more, they feel very stiff and heavy. The tracks are also like glass, there is no feeling of it being realistic in that respect. I can't stand how little the driver moves the steering wheel on the cockpit view. A wider field of view, and perhaps even a touch of motion blur would also help.

You just caught me out with the "first long turn" bit. I don't think of Turn 5 as a particularly long corner, just a complex one. I'm about 4 feet off the first apex, I run wide in the middle and get the car rotated with latent trail braking, then I set the rest of the corner up like I'm entering for the first time. It's a lot like Andretti (T2 at Laguna) with a tighter exit. T2 at Laguna was named for the Andretti driving style, of diving into the corner early, working the brake in some magical way, rotating at the apex and shooting off in a much straighter exit.

Remember that top-200 time I set? Yeah, it's now down in 987th. To get back into the top-200 I'd have to go 7 tenths quicker.

I find this is the fastest way in time trial mode, but in race mode the AI is there making you stick to the right, usually leaving you between the rail and the AI cars trying to hit the apex on the next corner (the right hander going up the hill), leaving you no option but to nudge them out of the way, not that I mind personally, just seems a bit cheap.

Now if the AI was smart enough to leave you a gap...

played the demo earlier and wasn't overly impressed to the point where i thought "I NEED THIS GAME IN MY LIFE RIGHT NOW!" but it did make enough of a impression that i'll get it eventually. I enjoyed Forza 2 for its simplistic approach to things and quite frankly any game that lets me play a Audi R8 is enough to warrant my time of day.
I'll get it, but with other games coming out soon (including the heavyweight Modern Warfare 2) its not enough to shift any attention to this game.
