And..... I'm pretty sure that is a blatant forum "no. no."

So here are the videos:

Welcome aboard!

edit: I'm sorry I just have to make this point. Maybe I'm spoiled by Top Gear or something but they were incredible videos. They managed to take two cars that people around the world are talking about and make them about as interesting as a fly's ass.

Also... in the first video, did the narrator really recommend "moving to a warmer climate and buying the Mazda"? Um yeah, idiot, that would surely be the smart thing to do when buying a $25,000 car. Pick up your whole life, buy a new house, take the kids out of school, tell your wife she needs to find a new job, find a new job for yourself, and start all over.... for a FWD Mazda.

The first video is from Edmunds.com and is supposed to be as informative as possible, not entertaining. The second video is Best Motoring I assume, one of my favorite car shows regardless of the fact that I can't understand what they are saying. Best Motoring and Top Gear are both car shows, but have very very different approaches to the subject.

Yeah I tried watching the second one, but obviously turned it off since I didn't understand anything. I guess part of me didn't realise it was an Edmunds video since it sounds so similar to the "Car and Driver TV" and "Motortrend TV" shows we get here. I must have been thinking of them as I was typing.

I don't mean to be an ass but if you're going to link us to your site for videos at least don't rip off other peoples material.

No Boss: Thanks for embedding images/smilies/biggrin.gif

Anyhow on topic:

The edmunds video was a bit boring (understandably) but to insist that one should move to a warmer climate to live with a front wheel drive car is stupid, especially since I doubt the WRX is really going to be much better in any climate that would be troublesome for the Mazda. Any bets on the WRX having summer only tires?

When will people understand that AWD != handling and grip on any terrain.

Also, am I the only who thinks the new WRX looks very much like the SAAB 9-2x?

Does the Mazdaspeed 3 have IRS? No way am I having that Subaru if it looks like that. But to be honest, I never liked the Mazdaspeed 3's looks as much as the normal Mazda 3 sport.

I want to know how well the civic type-r stands up again the wrx, it's a better looking car and has a nicer interior but it's got a slight power disadvantage (not that much though) and it's FWD (I've yet to read anything bad about the handling though - the ride on the otherhand :\)

Yes it's Multi link IRS.

This is why I like mazda parts, they understand how hard American cars are on their cars

The Mazdaspeed 3 is only a bit less tricky to launch than a space shuttle. Most of the runs up the drag strip vanished in excessive tire smoke. Or they deflated when the driver, trying to stanch the wheelspin, inadvertently cued the waste gate. Or grabbed the wrong gear with the spongy shifter. Calls to Mazda yielded tips: Pop the clutch at 2900 rpm, upshift at 6000 — redline is 6700 — and flat-shift through second and third (which means don’t lift at all — the mechanical equivalent of dropping a Steinway on the clutch and half-shafts and violating our test procedure).

“Don’t worry,” the engineers said, “it won’t break.” It didn’t — even after painting the pavement Bridgestone black with more than 30 hole shots.

mazda had like 260+ hp and the wrx has 224 or something... ya no wonder it can out perform the wrx on those speed-related tests... genius!

Glad everyone enjoyed it anywho... I feel sorry for all the longstanding WRX owners, who would want to upgrade to that!

I've heard the exact opposite, the only complaint tends to be "It's wrong wheel drive" but otherwise they love it.

MPS took out it's category in the latest BFYB tests in one of our popular local mags in AU (Motor).

Mazda is quite a popular brand over here in AU so given it's genuinely fast the MPS it's doing quite well.

The Holden Commodore SS (AU GM V8 Sedan) took the overall gong just beating out the Evo and the Fiesta XR4 (ST)...

Us Aussies still make the best BFYB V8 sedans anywhere in the world. Not to mention the Ford Typhoon / XR6 Turbo being one of the great I6 Turbo cars available (even though a new platform is due soon). 8)

Well, they are not where I live, or anywhere in America. I have yet to see a MazdaSpeed3 around here.

My japanese isnt great, but Im pretty sure the guy said the Mazda...
had some torque steer
was fun
changed direction quickly
mightve been more fun if he couldve changed up a gear
(and some other stuff I missed)

The Subie had too much body roll starting from the first cone and building. Didnt have a "linear" feel.

But you could get that from watching the vid!

Well the Mmazdaspeed version is limited production. Around these parts the regular Mazda 3 sells quite well, and considering most people out here still insist upon buying American thats pretty damn good.
