Waitress Owing Almost $28,000 Tops City Parking Ticket Scofflaws
19 Others Owe More Than $5,000
posted June 27, 2007

A waitress at the Big River Grille downtown tops the current list of city parking ticket scofflaws, city officials said.

Anna P. Brazzell owes the city court clerk's office $27,948.06, officials said.

City Court Clerk Ed Hammonds said Ms. Brazzell is often ticketed parking on Broad Street near the restaurant.

He said her car was "booted," but the car "had no value" so the city did not take possession of it.

Mr. Hammonds said the big bill has been turned over to a collection agency.

Ms. Brazzell, who was on duty at the restaurant on Wednesday, declined comment.

Crystal R. Blevins owes the city $17,876.55, officials said.

There are 18 other people owing the city more than $5,000 on unpaid parking tickets.

They are listed as:

Julie A. Huckabee $9,895
Dale Jeno $9,292
Oscar Ledell Buchanan $9,281
Stephen Scott Flegal $9,226
Matthew L. Swoopes $9,162
James C. Campbell $8,530
Vivian L. Ford $7,878
Charles William Clay Sr. $6,950
George Thomas $6,545
James R. Baldwin $6,474
Jan Roberts $6,232
Charlene E. Hughes $5,809
Marc T. Michael $5,610
Shawn C. Smith $5,451
Ryan J. Bell $5,390
Johnny B. Cunningham $5,272
Kevin L. Branam $5,056
Lisa Renee Sullivan $5,036

That's a lot. How much is a parking ticket over there? I am surprised they don't try harder to get their money.

Most of the the time a ticket cost 25-40 dollars depending on the county or city. Whats stupid is how long they let her get around.

What I have a feeling happened, is that she had a bunch of parking tickets, then they booted her, and never tookthe car, and she never paid, so the car accumulated thousands more dollars because it was never moved from it's illegal spot.

Heck...my car was towed with 3 outstanding tickets...but then again...it's a city that just about shares a border with the most-expensive zip code in the country, and the cops have nothing better to do...

If you don't pay the tickets they increase the fine as a penalty for not paying it on time. If you figure three tickets a day for parking illegally plus the late fees you can get there pretty quick.

How much do they increase the fine if you don't pay? Do they have an additional fee or do they increase by percentage? Like 40$fine+20% for not paying?

We have a gentleman here in Atlanta who has $20,000+ in tickets for running the toll on Georgia 400, the tickets are about $25 each meaning he has run the toll over 800 times. Dude is my freaking idol.

I'm not sure how they do it there, but I have heard of people's tickets never showing up in the mail so a $30 parking ticket turned into over $500 by the time they found out about it.

but thats the norm in america, let people get into huge financial trouble, and then don't alert them until they owe huge money. Its wrong as hell, but its seemingly the norm, as it makes sense from a "business" (more like jackass) point of view

My mother (probobaly the most organized person i know, period) was sprung extra "late" bills from the hosipital while going through kimo therapy for breast cancer, and couldn't find any clear record of them anywhere in all of the previous documents that she saved, business can be dirty as hell
