my argument probably has already been stated by everyone, but the price of a hybrid over the normal version would take a few years to break even. And even then, you arent getting phenomenal mpg. and then there is the sound, its completely silent when running on the electric engine, which can be ok but i'd like to hear whats going on.
the only definate advantage is that a hybrid may get better acceleration than the comparable petrol version.
That's because more and more hybrids today are designed with the hybrid system adding extra power instead of boosting fuel economy, like the Honda Accord Hybrid vs. the Toyota Prius.Originally Posted by bartboy9891
"Muscle hybrids" they're called by some. Who the hell came up with that term? The day I see a 700hp Chevy Nova SS with "Hybrid Synergy Drive" (another shit marketing term coined by douchebags who have nothing better to do than use useless words like "synergy") I'll believe it. And I'll cry too.
You don't really get your money's worth.
The added power doesn't justify the weight.
The battery life and environmental hazard.
Ugly.
OK, if you want a chick who's environmentally conscious, but I don't.
Slower than gasoline-powered equivalents.
Did I say, Ugly.

hybrids can be fast and exotic
in fact i think there's some brit company that's doing it
by making hybrids economical only i feel they're shooting
themselves in the foot
^ You mean the Venturi Fetish, which is French?
Yep, it's a hybrid. 600 grand and it's yours...
I had to drive a Prius for a while, and the fuel economy sucks.
If you accelerate really really gently, like you've got a 7-foot champagne fountain on the roof, then yeah, it's great. 50mpg, easy. And everyone honks at you because you're blocking traffic.
If you floor it, the thing flies. It's way faster than I thought it would be. Now suddenly you're accelerating like you've got a V6, and you're using more petrol to do it than if you actually had a V6.
The only way to get back the economy is to step on the brakes, and let the regenerative braking build some electricity back up. But then you've slowed down, and you have to accelerate again....
Take the money you thought you'd save on fuel, but actually wouldn't, and spend it on a real car. Hybrids are crap.
Oh yeah, and you have to honk at pedestrians because they never hear you. That shit gets really tired after a while. It felt so good to get back into a car with a stickshift and a loud rumbly exhaust....![]()
Hybrids have a very good fuel economy in city traffic. There was a test in a car magazine where they tested especially that and it came out great. Under 7l on 100km is great for a 2000+kg SUV.
On the motorway the fuel economy is just average.
The thing is though that many cities have problems with congestion, and a diesel would need to use fewer fuel, because of the higher amount of CO2 in diesel and the particles it emits.
So the Hybrid is good at least in big cities where it can uses its advantages. Over long distances the diesel stays unbeaten.
