Default American usage of Car names

This is actually a two-question thread...

#1) This is for any Europeans in the forums: Do you think it's hillarious, or sacreligious that potentially wonderful car names like Le Mans, Grand Prix and Monte Carlo were claimed by American car companies, and used on the pieces of crap-tastic garbage that they were/are?

#2) What SHOULD be some car names for future models? I'm amazed no one's made a car called "The Volcano." What do you think are some car names that never were, but should be?

Le Mans, Grand Prix and Monte Carlo were all very good cars when they were launched.

He he...I likw the BMW WTF.

These cars, when they were launched, is one thing...I guess I'm only familiar with the last generation or two of these cars.

Le Mans
http://a332.g.akamai.net/f/332/936/12h/www.edmunds.com/pictures/VEHICLE/1993/Pontiac/18081/1993.pontiac.lemans.9005-396x249.jpg

Grand Prix:

Monte Carlo:

I guess my main thoughts was that these cars name's were meant to evoke a certain feeling...which they hopelessly fail to deliver.

I still think the replacement for the Neon should have been called the LED. Or maybe the Halogen.

We should start naming cars after our fighter jets. How cool would it be to have a Ford Raptor or a Dodge Warthog?

Personally, I think the British should be more offended by the fact that their great 17th century monarch recieves the suspicious honor of getting a cheap and primitive police cruiser named after her.

I'm sadder about the fact that they didn't drop the Mustang name after 1971. Even the modern 'Stang is a shame, in my mind. That has, however, nothing to do with the handling or the performance, neither technology, I just hate the way it looks.

It's one of those cars that would have looked fantastic on the sketches, and I am sure it did, but when it's made, it looks like it a piece of plastic. I mean.. blargh.

You must find the irony in saying that, then posting the pictures of that particular Monte, considering it's looks.

I find the GTO is a far more entertaining name. Considering when it came out it wasn't (officially) a race car or any form of homologation special.

GTO translated to english is supposed to mean "Gran Turismo Homologation" or some shit like that.

But it's still better than the C32, 335, 355, 360, 330, 225, 250F, 155, 164, 159, 560, 190, 180, 220, 320, RX-7, CX-9, MX-5.

I always liked the name "stealth" to bad dodge used it on a car that was only "stealthly" act was appearing fast, but actually being an overweight, poorly balanced, bastardized Mitsubishi (was was still all of those things).

Being named for a weapon, animal, or warrior usually seems cool. The Ninja, Katana, Lancer (though the car makes that cooler than the name, the Dodge one sucked), Mustang, etc..

If I remember correctly, John Delorean blatantly stole GTO name from Ferrari after he found out they were going to call their next car GTO. images/smilies/biggrin.gif

What, a car that doesn't do anything for hundreds of years, then explodes, spewing out clouds of ash and killing thousands of people?

Who thought "Gremlin" was a good name for a car?

It was suiting. After all the car did have quite a few gremlin's being an AMC product.

The Pacer should go down in history as one of the best names in history, as owners were always told "Pacer self when driving, it may rust and fall apart at any moment." Think of the "redneck dictionary" jokes and it'll make a lot more sense. Or perhaps it should go down as the worst car name in history since most of them had no pace what so ever. images/smilies/biggrin.gif

I still find some issue with your Grand Prix Picture, you must use the last generations, so this:

Case in point: LeSabre. "The Sword". How can you not love a car with such a badass name? Oh, wait, when it's this:

Before I move into my apartment for college next year, I plan to raid a junkyard and steal the front bench seat to an '88 LeSabre. Dark red power velvet seats with GM belt buckles? images/smilies/w00t.gif

Maybe I'll use the 3800 engine for a coffee table. My room's gonna be full of Porsche posters anyway...

I think there should be niche for internet nerds.

The BMW M3 1337.
The Toyota Lollerskates.
The Volvo IMHO.
The Proton FTL.
The Ferrari FTW.
Aston Martin Teh Hawtness.
Some VW with a picture of Hitler playing the banjo on it.
A VW cabriolet with the word "ghey" and rolling eye smilie on the back.
TVR "TeH PhOtOcHoPpEd".
The Chevrolet You Fail.
Skoda STFU.
Vauxhall Vectra with a yawning smilie on the back.

Instead of horn symbol on the steering wheel, it will be "STFU newb!"

also all da ownerz maneuls
