Agreed - there's mechanics who have no passion or enthusiasm for cars, so there's no way they're 'car guys'.

I'm a car person, I'd say. Just like the Jalopnik tag line: "Obsessed with the cult of cars". I'm not much of a mechanic, but am definitely so saturated with cars I can call myself a car person.

I'm also a hopeless music nerd and an "internet dweeb." :p

At least its not a camry or a corolla images/smilies/tongue.gif. That sort of thing doesn't bother me though, yesterday I got given 3 sets of wheel bearings on Landcruisers followed by a TRD Aurion

Yes, I'm a Snowmobile person too.

I don't know if you have to work on your own cars or what but either way I'm in.

If by "car person" you mean "car enthusiast"? No, I lack the time or the money to do anything serious with cars (ie. track days, modifications, etc). I have a great interest in cars, but I wouldn't dare call myself an enthusiast. At least, not yet.

What the ironic thing is, I'm studying Mechanical Engineering.

If someone who wasn't a car person looked at me, they'd say I was a car person.

None of those options apply to me unfortunately. I'm just a hybrid or something....

- I generally know quite a bit about cars and I like talking about and driving them.

- On the mechanical side of things, I change my own oil, tires, filters, spark plugs-- the basics essentially, I let someone else do the complicated stuff although I'd like to learn to do everything eventually.

- I'm perfectly fine with my vehicles being pretty much stock. Though a couple of light modifications here and there such as proper rims are acceptable.

- Although I enjoy driving a car with a manual tranny (ditto for motorcycles) I don't cry myself to sleep if I have to drive a vehicle with a "slushbox".

- When gas prices started getting to me, instead of crying about it I went out and bought a motorcycle that gets 55 MPG and I love cruising around on a good day. It's just tons of fun.

- I also enjoy watching motorsports; I like Le Mans, Moto GP, and even Top Fuel Drag racers are incredible for me to watch. And, oh, I love Top Gear. images/smilies/smile.gif

Then there's the other side of the coin....

- I usually can't stand most "motorheads" out there. You know, the crazy types that buy a stock car and start stripping everything out in an attempt to shave 20 pounds off their 2500 pound car.

- I don't take my vehicles to track days.

- I don't think every person that drives an expensive exotic car has a small penis. Sure, there are some exotic car-owning dicks (ha ha, see what I did...) out there but they're not exclusive to expensive cars. I've met a couple of Ferrari owners who were over-all fun guys and I enjoyed talking to them.

- Sorry, but I think naked bikes with one big headlight are ugly. images/smilies/tongue.gif

- I can't stand the ricer community and their big fart cans, big wings on front wheel drive cars, uselessly huge wheels, or lambo doors on 4-banger Hondas.

- Likewise, I can't stand the muscle car community. I'm sure there are exceptions to this rule, but just about everyone driving a Mustang/Camaro/Firebird is some irresponsible douche that thinks every intersection they stop at is the start of a drag strip. There are no exceptions to Cobalt drivers however, each and every single one I encounter is an a-hole.

- Same goes for the motorcycle equivalent of ricers, the guys who have to take their perfectly fine stock bike and extend the back wheel by 3 feet and put a big chrome chopper wheel on the back. I can understand the necessity of this modification for drag bikes, but if you're a normal person like me and like to be able to take your civilian motorbike through turns, you would leave that wheel base alone.

- Sorry, but I don't really like older cars. I don't think the 60's 'Stangs are more beautiful then, say, a Ferrari 360. So shoot me, I don't care. Also, in my opinion the C5 'Vette is much prettier than the stingray, and the C6 is just some sports car.

Err, I've mentioned a few times that I'm Chinese.

I'm not a car expert, but I do love them. My dad is a mechanic and occasionally races in various events (mostly off road), so I get a lot of my passion from him.
