Default Ariel Atom and Nürburgring

Interesting article from Top Gear Web site IMHO. Take an Atom to Nürburgring and try to overtake 1,000,000 GBP worth of Super Cars. /Edit Helps if you put the link in the post I suppose!

Just finished reading the article and it's fantastically written.

Other than that one group of tommy's, is anyone else trying a Atom/Hayabusa V8. They are mounting it transversely, wonder what transmission they are using?

TG the Mag must have videoed at least some portions of the laps.

Yeah, not enough Porsches at the 'Ring. Hey, they passed that Z4 Coupe twice!

I wonder - can the US Ecotec version go quicker with its extra torque? I'd love to see the V8 have a go when finished too. There are some interesting Aeriel Videos on youtube for the interested.

The Radical SR8 set a new lap record with that Hayabusa V8. I couldn't imagine driving the 'Ring in a tiny little Atom, that would scare the everloving fuck outta me, hell I bet those fast blind corners are scary as hell in a big F575 or Audi S4, it'd be absolutely coming over those little jumps and hitting all those bumps in a little tiny car with no roof, doors, or any body panels at all.

He only averaged 9 minutes a lap. That's quite slow for such a fast car. I expect high 7's and low 8's.

The lack of body panels gives it the aerodynamic properties of a coffee table. I'd bet that it topped out quite a bit.

Last year a Caterham R400 with a driver with almost no ring experience at all (his 9th lap) managed a time of 8.15 BTG in a guided lap behind an M3 E36. Even the BMW is able to do better than 8.00 BTG. The Atom should be alot quicker with 100bhp more.

The Atom tops out at 150MPH or so IIRC. The long straight is a killer for it.
