Default Audi Cross Cabriolet Quattro... is it an offroader, or a convertible...

...its BOTH... I want one
Quote:
At the Los Angeles Auto Show today, Audi carves out yet another niche in the market by attempting to answer the question of what happens when a TT roadster and a Q7 head behind the barn for some fun. Apparently, the answer is the Cross Cabriolet quattro. This new crossover with a retractable soft-top features Audi's obligatory quattro all-wheel-drive and gets propulsion via the latest version of the 3.0L TDI V6.

The updated TDI has 240hp and 369 lb-ft of torque and is fully compliant with the Euro 6 emissions regulations. The diesel is equipped with a particulate filter and uses urea injection to clean up the NOx emissions. The fifteen foot long four-seater has 110.6-inch wheelbase. All the torque is distributed to the corners by way of an eight speed automatic transmission and motion is arrested by big ceramic brakes

looks marvelous (except for that grille... put on the new RS6s grille and it'll be perfect)

I think 'SUV / convertible' is my new least favourite niche.

It's a jeep wrangler with some leather and none of the offroad capability.
Anyone that has ever done any real offroading knows there is potential to flip over so with no roll bar that should be nice.
Audi makes great cabrios for the road so why not just stick with that?

Convertibles and offroaders go together like orange shoes with a dark suit.

Jeep Wrangler is the only 4x4 cabriolet that works that is on the market. I loved the old Ford Broncos/Chevy Blazers that were convertables, same with the Samurais. Those were cool, but their nice has been long forgotten. I guarentee this won't re open it either. No roll bar, and no real 4x4 capabilities, fail.

Those ones you mentioned are more trucks with removable tops as opposed to real convertibles. This Audi is basically an Allroad with a convertible top.

I'm ready for some flaming - I like it. Its somewhat of a fresh idea - I don't see why a convertible and ground clearance are mutually exclusive. It's 240hp diesel w/ AWD - its not pretending to be a sports car. Crossovers are popular because people need a modicum of offroad ability, and like the high driving position. I know people who like luxury and convertibles and have a very spartan driveway - they'd go for this. (In opposed to currently having a convertible that has trouble even in perfect weather, and an ML350 - that does the job in all weather, but is otherwise uncessary)

Riiiight - memo to Audi - just because you can invent a market niche, doesn't mean it makes any sense... or looks any good.
