Default Audi R8 Spider - Hit or Skip?

http://images.worldcarfans.com/articles/2007/11/27/9071127.012/9071127.012.1M.jpg

Audi is planning on releasing an R8 Spider within a few years. Will this ruin what the R8 stands for?

I also received info from someone at the L.A. auto show that we should expect to see the RS6 V10 Twin Turbo placed in the R8 within three years. That is something to wait for!

Too bad the R8 mule with the W12 engine exploded on the nurburgring this summer. What would have happened if that engine survived those tests?

nay... not exactly a stunner, i kind of like the hardtop, but the convertible version totally ruins the car.

The only cars that ever worked better as convertibles were the AC Cobra, and the Top Gear Minivan.

According to this, it was the V10 Twin Turbo that burnt to crisp: http://www.autoblog.com/2007/11/27/m...to-be-v10-rs8/

I much prefer the hard top. It sort of loses the coolness if it were a roadster.

If it was a size of a stone, then I would pick it up and "skip" it into a lake to drown and be forgotten.

Retched.

Done with the photoshop! Here's what the R8 convertible will look like

Here's what you'll look like driving it

(as a side note, I really was trying to photoshop it but it didn't come out so well so I thought I would go with this images/smilies/tongue.gif)

Looks better as a convertable than as a hardtop.

As for "what the R8 stands for", it doesn't stand for anything to me. It just feels like a product built by a big company to meet a demand, but I guess i'm in the minority there.

I've never been one for convertibles.

Maybe this will turn out like the Gallardo Spyder. Clarkson admitted he didn't like the Lambo coupe too much but the convertible impressed him so much that he bought one.

I think it's a swing and a miss, but knowing the Germans and their penchant for marketing to every demographic... it'll def. happen.

/Seriously, who needs a convertible S4?

The doodle there looks shite, but in principle on the actual car it should be promising. I like what they've done with the headrest humps and the side scoop, so I'm looking forward to it.

And what's wrong with convertibles? Just because you can't go around a track 1/1000ths of a second faster doesn't mean they should all be written off! JC put it best in the Gallardo Spyder review, I suggest that some of you go back and take notes.

To help you guys with your decision, I just whipped up a little chopshop of the R8 without it's roof.
