At first I was like, wow that's a lot of text with no pictures... but it's actually very interesting (esspecially if you're stuck bored at work). Thanks.

Last night I decided to compare AWD systems, primarily Audi's Quattro and Subaru's symmetical design (and Evo once I figure some things out) and stumbled upon some really interesting information, such as the article above. Glad Im not the only one that finds this interesting

Pretty good article. His information about center diffs not being used in trucks isn't entirely true though. It probably applies in most cases, but older trucks with the NP203 full-time 4WD transfer case did in fact have a center diff which was manually lockable.

Keep in mind that article was last updated in Feb 1999 :/
so some of the technologies will have changed since. Brilliant find tho, cheers. |

IMO, his recomendations at the end are a bitt off. It really depends what you want the vehicle for. If you are buying a 4x4 for offroad use, definetly go for a part manually selectable system.

yeah..^^i think he was recommending mostly for normal city / highway driving..
interesting read anyways.. people call this stuff boring but i always find it interesting... |

hey locking diffs aren't only for trucks my mazda has a locking center diff as well...
