Default Bad things happen when I get bored.....

I painted my car....yes, well, some of it. My 2000 Eclipse has a REALLY bad paint job on it. It's runs fantastic, and I have lightly modded it, but the paint was spiderwebbing, clearcoat was gone and it looked WORSE than what you're about to see.

Ahh, that rattle can.....

Actually, I'm proud of the wheels. I got some DupliColor Wheel coating. It worked well. Anyway, the pics....

http://i22.tinypic.com/ajnuih.gif

You can see what the paint was doing in this pic, kind of...

http://i23.tinypic.com/1432ngz.gif

http://i20.tinypic.com/21lk8

I know, it looks bad, but it's still better then what it was. Besides...it's got a mad max thing going on. Anyone know if they make a brush guard for this gen eclipse?

That's really pretty bad :p If that's supposed to be the gloss coat, get wet-sanding and compounding until it doesn't look like a blackboard (actually wet-sanding and/or compounding would have removed the cobwebbing in the first place without resorting to DIY)

It's flat satin. Don't worry, the car is going to go to a real paintbooth in about a month.

When I say the paint was bad, I mean it, it was GONE. I use to be a detailer, if it were not my car, I would just suggest the person get the car re-sprayed. Clay-bar, wax, nothing was going to bring it back, honestly

If you run out of space to write things, you can always go outside and write on the bonnet now..

I'm not sure. I bought it used 3 years ago and it was ok when I got it. Some blemishes, but I wasn't worried about it. It happend to the Dodge Avenger and other models of the same year, the same paint. It's been an issue that Mitsubishi/Chrysler has decided to ignore.

Anybody have pictures of the 240sx that Sport Compact car did all in flat black spray paint a few years ago?

That was a good looking car with that paint job. I think they did a STI with the same paint job.

I really wish carmakers still used the lacquer like they used to. That paint was very durable and you could almost always bring it back to a nice shine. You're lucky if this cheap crap they use now lasts five years without fading badly. Clear coat was invented by satan because once that goes your paint job is ruined. Not to mention the horrendous orange peel on most new cars. It's like the spray jets are painting the car from across the street.

Jack it up, put off-road tires and rally lights on it, stick a grille guard off a Crown Victoria on the front (make it fit, dammit), some gun mounts on the roof, light guards made of Home Depot grade mesh, and weld bars on the windows. Et voila, nobody's going to be laughing when the zombie apocalypse comes and you'll be chillin' in your post-apocalyptic Deathmobile while everybody else around you gets eaten alive. Muahahahah.

I had the same problem with my '02 Cherokee Sport. The paint was lathered on too thick so it wasn't flexible anymore and the entire hood and roof became a network of enamel cracks. They had to strip it and repaint the car, I was $200 out of pocket because the car was out of warranty, but they picked up the rest.
