Steve Saleen's pre-production GT

Quote:
This is a rare opportunity to own a piece of automotive history. Not only is this a pre-production Ford GT, but it's also Steve Saleen's personal GT. This is vehicle #5 of the 9 pre-production GT's that Ford reserved for internal use. It was given to Steve Saleen from Ford.

The Ford GT is a mid-engined sports car built by Ford Motor Company from 2005 to 2006. It began as a concept car designed in anticipation of Ford's centennial year. Positive response on the auto show circuit in 2002 helped persuade the company to produce the car in limited quantities, and the first production versions appeared in 2005. Production startup began on August 17th, 2001. The first customers took delivery in August 2004. The GT began assembly and was painted by Saleen in their Saleen Special Vehicles facility in Troy, Michigan. The GT is powered by an engine built at Ford's Romeo Engine Plant in Romeo, Michigan. Installation of the engine and transmission along with interior finishing was handled in the SVT building at Ford's Wixom, Michigan plant.
Of the 4,500 GTs originally planned, approximately 100 were to be exported to Europe, starting in late 2005. An additional 200 were destined for sale in Canada. When production ended in 2006, the full planned lot of 4500 were not produced. Approximately 550 were built in 2004, nearly 1900 in 2005, and just over 1600 in 2006, for a grand total of 4038; however, the final 11 car bodies manufactured by Mayflower Vehicle Systems were disassembled and the frames and body panels sold as service parts.

As with many highly desirable new vehicles, when the Ford GT was first released, the demand severely outpaced supply, and the cars initially sold for premium prices. The first private sale of Ford's new mid-engine sports car was completed on August 4, 2004, when former Microsoft executive Jon Shirley took delivery of his Midnight Blue 2005 Ford GT. Shirley earned the right to purchase the first production Ford GT (chassis #10) at the Pebble Beach Concours d'Elegance Auction after bidding over $557,000. Jay Leno, host of The Tonight Show with Jay Leno, took possession of his private sale Red 2005 GT (chassis #12) a week later. This exact vehicle is chasis #5 of the 9 pre-production GTs.

This amazing example has priceless documented Ford history that comes with the vehicle. This was the media car for all early tests on the Ford GT. This vehicle started out as a yellow with black stripes car, which can be seen in various magazines. Once Steve Saleen took delivery of it, he had it sent to the Saleen plant in Troy, Michigan to be disassembled, repainted white with blue stripes (his preference), and then assembled back to factory specifications. Steve also had a one-off supercharger manufactured specifically for this vehicle that you won't find on any other Ford GT. You will also find a different build plate on this engine (as seen in picture). The build plate reads, "4.6 LITER 4V MUSTANG COBRA." This is because this pre-production engine started off as a 4.6L block and then bored out to 5.4L. This exact vehicle was featured in such movies as "Rocky Balboa" and "Fast and Furious 4". It was also featured in the "Supercars" book, which a signed copy by Steve Saleen will be included with the vehicle. This pre-production GT has all the factory options including: McIntosh sound system, Racing stripes, Painted brake calipers, and Forged alloy wheels.Being a pre-production vehicle, this vehicle is not registered as a street legal vehicle and has only been driven on the test track or on the streets with manufacturer plates. This vehicle is perfect investment to add to one's historic collection.
I'd love to have this.

The only thing, the ONLY thing I don't like about the GT is those holes in the seat.

But if push came to shove I'd get a repro GT40 instead. Not in Gulf colors though.

The only thing I don't like about the Ford GT is...wait, there's nothing I don't like about it. If I ever come across a spare 150 grand or so...

Mmm, the Ford GT is awesome. That colour scheme is my favourite as well.

Damn, I hoped it was just a print of camera hanging around your neck, like one of those fake tuxedo shirts. One of those ironic "I'm a tourist, psych!" shirts.

I love how they say they can't mention the name of the movie, but there is a big windshield banner that says "The fast and the furious: Tokyo Drift" in the pictures.

why would you want a Japanese engine in a car with those looks? I admire all the work that must have gone into converting it, but I don't get it.

The other way around (stuffing a stonking big V8 in a Jap car) would make more sense

Haha, that's actually really cool! And that particular 124 looks like it's in pretty good condition (except for the garish interior), so good for him.
