Mandatory in Germany. We have to cover ze Nutts!
I lost one myself (on the winter tires), so I got 3 left, and I doubt I'm getting a ticket for it...

you mean the little black things they put on alloys? they´re for mounting certain types of snowchains that don´t scratch up the rims....
really??? when I had steel rims in the winter I never even thought about putting the hubcaps on... you see a lot of cars like this in the winter...

Oh, you mean the little lead thingies to balance out the wheel? At the outer part of the rim? Well, nothing more can be found on tires, so I guess you mean that...

just one wheel?? well these things actually come on and off quite easily, as they´re basically just stuck in the holes for the nuts that keep the wheels from flying off... so maybe the ones you saw had lost one of them... normally you would just keep these in the same bag as your chains...
you see these a lot on jags for some reason

They are used in Korea as well, I have never seen them in the USA though. It took me forever to figure out what they were for too! The name of them is eluding me at the moment, but it does have the word Spider in it.

so what the hell ARE they for then, if they even have these in saudi arabia it´s likely that there is some use for them other than snowchains...

wow, seems like we have a mystery on our hands here, tomorrow I will stop the first car I see with one of these things and ask!
If these fall of easily, what good would they do if they were there for some sort of snow chain thingy... And I've seen them in the summer too!

Source |
