Victory? Oh no. Fastest car in the world? McLaren F1 - Petrol. Most Eco-friendly? Prius - Hybrid. Most Torque? CL 65 - Petrol.

Now tell me, where does a diesel car win? images/smilies/biggrin.gif images/smilies/biggrin.gif

We're talking racing here, not supercars... This 320d has beaten McLaren F1 LMs at the Ring, just because while they had to refill 4 times, the bimmer would refill only once... Regularity helps!

Petrol does lead on the performance front, there's no denying it, but on the long run that's another story altogether images/smilies/wink.gif

Not:

* when you live in a country where premium is $5 a gallon, as here,
* when you're into endurance racing too.

As a matter of fact, Audi will probably come back to Le Mans... With a Diesel engine.

The fuel here is 7$ a gallon. but if your a guy who likes cars, you dont care. Also diesel cars are more expencive when you buy 'em new. Its not like they run on water either. Buy an Audi A2 1.4 Petrol if consution is your main consern. images/smilies/smile.gif

hehe daniel is a die-hard petrol head.
I am not a diesel lover but I'm willing to give it the benefit of the doubt.... I can't see a fundamental problem with considering something like a bmw 330d as a daily runabout.....

Lol, Daniel: Diesel engines are made better by the week now, look at the past few years how diesel has progressed. The fact that it is beating petrolcars already is just the beginning. You can ask me the same question in 5/10 years (about the McLaren, then there will be a McLaren CDI as well, and it will blow the petrol one away, and as idletask pointed out, the diesel will win with one lap difference, because the petrol one has to refill every 5kms images/smilies/mrgreen.gif

Bye Bye Petrol! images/smilies/tongue.gif

Ah so, rigth you are. BUT you can forget everything about not sounding like a diesel when revving to 5k...

No doubt that if you are a company exec only looking for a drive, and dont really rev the engine above 3k (and there are a lot of those about) then there really aren't many better cars than diesel bmw's... but they are just not for me and never will be.

Is that when you turn gay at 50?

Now look Josty. The Petrol engine hasnt really gone through a lot of changes. It has only got electronic injection through the past decades. The diesel has been worked oon a lot, because it is a sensible and fuel officiant REPLACEMEANT for people who are not enthustiastic enough to buy a petrol car.

If your not going out to pull forests or transport stuff across the globe every second Tuesday, and if your not 50 nor a granny nor nearly out of money; WHY WOULD YOU BUY ONE!!??

Lol, you have lots of torque, you have a turbo images/smilies/wink.gif

I agree petrol gives you a nice sound and lots of revs, I'm not saying I like diesels more than petrol...I'm only saying that Diesel will get alot faster (maybe not faster than petrol supercars) but it will come very very close...I think images/smilies/wink.gif
