| My dad just got an offer for a BMW diesel 5 series instead of the 2004 E-Class CDI 220. Good deal? If top gear is to be believed I think so. | |

| Definately. E-Class = Old person's car. 5-Series = too common. A6 = Just right.

| if its the 535d then take the BMW. but you cant go wrong with merc's diesel engine, but 220d is kind of weak, try go for a used 320d.

Car: BMW 530i Rep Power: 16 ![]() | Stereotypes aside, the current Merc and BM diesels in this class are lightyears ahead of the Audi. Sorry IceBone and Speedtouch, but I'm sticking with MadCow on this one IMO, Merc's smaller diesels are superior to BMW's, but if it's the 530d or 535d, however, MadCow's right, go for the 5er.

Car: Too many Rep Power: 0 ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() | The current merc is supposed to be good, but boring, wheras the 5 series is supposed to be even more interesting in standard trim, with the sacrifice of a little reliability (only if pushed hard on a track, so i've heard.) On a interesting note i remember Jezza himself saying that he actually liked the Diesel E class more to the standard petrol E class (petrol one having the personality of drowning in wall paper paste or something) Instead of banking on us i'd have you dad test drive them, if hes not smart enough to take a day of his time to decide how he actually wants to spend his hard earned cash then he can damn well live with the consequences of his actions. |

| Problem's that I'll have to live with those consequences as well. And in anycase it seems that the 5 series is going out the window and now he's talking about an X5 (and driven one already - said he felt there was something wrong with the suspension). What ya'll think? | |

| Gulf Livery Rules | It's an SUV, that's what's wrong with the suspension. Just get an estate and close off an airport at night. |

| If you like driving, BMW. If you like plush luxury, Merc. | |

| E220 CDI is alright, if you don't mind too much excissive vibration and noise coming from the engine. I'm judging only from the E class taxis we have around here, so I'm talking reliability should be great. | |

![]() I like driving and forget why ma dad likes the Merc so much. His latest reason was "resale value". BMs are apparently hard so sell. | ||

Rep Power: 0 ![]() | BMW has new line of diesel engines, also the _has been_ slow 318D is new and ok at the moment. if the room is not priority, 123D is quick diesel. If not, go for the 525D and up. Audi diesels aren´t that bad neither, 240hp A5 3.0tdi is quite quick, I have driven one. If it were my money spending, I would go for 320D touring M-sport. Sensible and quickish, also some fun to be had. E-class is just too sensible shoes for my liking, at least if not 320cdi or up from there. 220cdi is sluggish. |
