Default BMWs used by Swedish Secret service Säpo

Dose anyone know what the extra rear lights are for on the BMW 540i Protection used by Säpo are for? Anyone know anymore about the E34 and E39 5 series protection models? Or got any more pictures?

I would assume that they're just strobe lights, probably LED or Xenon based. They're commonly installed on police cars and construction vehicles over here.

They cover the road with IKEA dowels to send any pursuers spinning into a world of frustration and melamine.

Don't some cars have reverse lights there (so you can see them through fog or something)

Here they but the LiBar on the parcel shelf, putting the light bar down so low doesn't seem like a good idea to me

I believe they're flashing red and blue.

These light are not just found on the 540i but on all vehicles used by SÄPO. The lights are extremly bright and are used for situations where you have to reverse in the dark. They also enable the agents to blind any followers.

yay I was right images/smilies/biggrin.gif, I knew they were too low for regular flashing lights

It used to be really easy to see an undercover police car but it seems to be getting more difficult (eg they tint it just to the right colour so you can barely see the light bar when it's off)

That reminds me of a bloke I knew back in the 1980's.

He got fed up with people flashing him from behind and installed a lever in his Opel Rekord, that allowed him to open and close his boot while driving. Inside he had mounted a battery of four of those rallye lights which he could use to flash people back images/smilies/smile.gif

Naturally he was caught by the police one day and had a hell of an explanation to do images/smilies/biggrin.gif
